Re: Mechanical Hydraulic Brakes...

this mix indeed seems like the worst of both worlds
so everyone who does not use them keeps saying
In use its just a brake that is better than a non hydraulic cable pull disc brake that has never let me down in operation.

Re: Mechanical Hydraulic Brakes...

Mine have been fine on my bike and never had any issues with them - HyRd used for about 15,000 miles with at least one fluid change in that time. Its much more powerful than the mechanical discs brakes it replaced never had brake fade on them - I have done the odd lakeland descent but i dont think i...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

I absolutely agree it's only one night, but could you count it as February instead of January? My thinking was i had to be in the bivy before it became febuary as not really sure how it could count if i ditched after midnight. i was not going to achieve this if i sought lower ground/shelter I guess...

"What single thing would most improve matters for UK cyclists?" - answer: "dedicated infrastructure". Quite dispiriting I'm afraid Most cyclits dontdo what we doand the greatest deterent to cycling ,for those hwo dont or do infrequently, is the cars on the roads if we had cycling infrastructure lik...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

The "rules" are clear. Last night only counts as January.
My bad i though overnighters on the cusp could be claimed for both -if say i had aready done one in jan could i claim it as febs?

It was indeed charchter building and better than having just another night sat at home

Re: It reads a bit like an advert but ...

you can get cheap and decent - though i doubt longevity is brilliant - tents from aliepress etc -my first one was less than £50 and still well under a kg-I have used it perhaps 20 times and certainly waterproof. IMHO its air beds and bags where you dont really have cheap decent alternatives* - unles...

well this fool took a tent and forgot all his tent pegs  - though i was in a diffferent area fromyou I improvised for it was the only way to get BAM in as it was 11 when i stopped. Tied the back to my bars and then used the two poles that go together to peg out the front - thanks to all the ra...

Yes I am and true.
However what I lack in proximity i make up for in my pricing policy of free

Not likely to be down that way in the near future and getting it to leeds is the best I can do -not even sure that is any closer tbh.

Re: Bright Ideas?

as above exposure and a MTB battery pack - good management and its lasting days of usable light. It is also simple and reliable and if i only have one light i want it on my head. The real answer is of course a dynamo hub using a beacon headlight and a usb battery pack . I dont think you could ever r...

Re: Going back to 10

Dont think i would swap out if a bike came with it but i dont think i would try and do it on any of my bkes either This sums up my opinion of 1 x 11 as the two easiest gears always sound noisy -notterrible just sub optimal. I am not a fan of the angles the rear mech is working through, the slightest...

Again, there is no such size as 20 x 100 and again I have a set that are 100 x 20 mm so clearly they do exist - Hope did 20 mm adapters long before they did boost hubs There was a large travel Bomber fork as well as my mate had them-this was before i had pikes mind early 2000's. I bough tthem of TO...

sea to summit confort light - though 700 g might not be what you call light ! I think for iceland i would be taking a foam mat as well as whilst bulky they are not heavy YMMV eg https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/equipment-c3/sleeping-mats-c58/closed-cell-foam-mats-c137/z-lite-regular-closed-ce...

Re: What axle do I need ?

There is a link above you to a 20x 110 non boost axle so 20 mm x 110mmm may or may not be boost and i have some 20mm forks that are 100mm axle size and 100 mm hub. Secondly hub width wont tell you if it boost or not -though that the length does not say for certain is news to me I dont think we have ...

same pikes still working on my kids bike and it is not Boost. Boost was not a thing in 2004 Of the 15mm I have two sets that are not boost and two that are boost I think 15 mm is the new standard and the boost thing is not related to axle size [ though at some point it may have been ] and a 15 mm no...

I dont think they do change the angle [and none of their blurb claims it does but i assume you knew this] as the forward facing part is just a straight line . However the rear palm bit is a different angle so i think they change the wrist position/hand position but whether this would be enough for y...
