Re: Vittoria tyre choice

Both are XC, defo not mud. Gato is slightly more aggressive, I think. If a winter mud tyre is required, I wouldn't bother but go for the Chunky Monkey

Re: Hooped Bivis (That don't weigh a ton)...

I often think that when people think they'd like a hooped bivvy ... what they actually want is a Lunar Solo. Not me, I have a similarly designed tarp-tent. The hooped bivi is that uber-niche shelter between tarp-tent and bivi bag. Plus, the replacement of the now retired lunar solo still hasn't mat...

Re: Hooped Bivis (That don't weigh a ton)...

ive the OR Helium, bought from Richpips on here. I really like it because: 1 light 2 anti-midge net 3 roomy; hoop moves the cover away from your face 4 good water resistance. I don't like: 1 bit of foot-end condensation even with a breeze when the cover is closed 2 cover is in your face when the net...

Re: North to south Scotland route including cairngorms

Five of my road Club pals completed the LWD a fortnight ago. It is road, not gravel. I joined them for the final leg South Queensferry to Coldstream to be a domestique. They completed it in 24 hours on the dot. We* trained by doing 200k, 300k and 400k audaxs in the preceding months, the 300 and 400 ...

Re: Pump recommendations please

Ive never de-cored using my Leyzne either. Finger tight screw on the hose then attach the pump. I have seen valves pulled when the hose was attached to the pump and then screwed onto the valve - with the pump rattling around on the end of the hose it is easier to yank the value / screw it on squint

Re: Mapping Local Trails

@jamiep - That's an interesting idea. Does it show on the map screen of Strava as an icon, or do you click the image to see? (I've never used the smartphone app, I usually just upload rides from gpx etc) Upload via a phone or gps, doesn't matter. Then add any photos. When subsequently viewing the r...

Re: Seized again.

I've still square taper on my commuter hackabout. The bike gets zero love (eg cleaned only when doing the biannual chain change) but the BB is still absolutely fine and has never even been looked at once. HT BBs on my hardtail are a different story tho, hence I currently have a stash of about 6 spar...

I sometimes use one, in the lower position, to provide a buttress for the roll bag to sit against to prevent pulling on the cables

Went to see it in Edinburgh too and really enjoyed it especially the Q&A session afterwards too.

I'll not be using hissy fit but, yes, you are right that there was a discussion about it and a twitter interaction. I think the film is well worth going to see as is the Q&A
