Re: luggage/kit weight distribution

A frame bag can make a really big difference as you can keep quite a bit of weight centred ... which regardless of what I've just said can never be a bad thing that's good to hear as i recently placed my order for a wildcat gear 'leopard' full frame bag. The worst handling I've experienced (besides...

luggage/kit weight distribution

howdy, assuming a 'normal' amount of bikepacking kit (not crazy minimal nor overly burdened) and with the aim of minimising the impact on bike handling - how do you guys distribute the weight of your kit throughout the bike??? it seems that a lot of people carry more on their bars than i had planned...

holy crap - it's beautiful!

i felt like a nerd when i started a simple spreadsheet to list/organise my kit but now i just feel inferior.

thanks!

now i'm gonna have to break out the excel books and see what i can come up with.....

Re: Water Filter

the website says: "This filter does not remove dissolved solids, including chemicals and heavy metals." in my opinion Giardia ain't all that! in the UK i only ever really worry about industrial and agricultural contaminants (i.e. chemicals and heavy metals). we lived in Malawi for a year running a b...

Re: WRT closest railway station?

There's only 2 black badges in circulation yeah.....the one thing i can usually do is keep going (at a snails pace) until i get where i need to go. to date - the furthest i've ridden in one go is 130km and the longest i've ridden in one go is 10 hours. bugger! i'm hoping that my upcoming 'training'...

Re: WRT closest railway station?

OMG!!! you seen how much train fares are . Gonna have to persuade a mate with a car that this would be a fun thing to do  . or.....find someone who's coming from somewhere close-ish to you (i.e. up north) who can give you a lift and then find a cheap(er) train to near them (or enrou...

that sleeping bag is mental - it's not even that heavy for what it can do (although possibly out of my price-range).

Re: PSA: Pipedream pre-order at AlpKit

Gairym has just bought a Vango Venom 300 for about £60-70, might be worth asking him what he thinks of it. I think it's in the 'guidance on night temperature' thread. i've only spent one night out in it so far and it was toasty warm! the conditions were: - between 0 and 2 degrees the night i tested...

Sept may not work too well for me, but I'd be up for a PB trip if by chance it falls right I'm back in blighty in late-April/early-May and so if anyone was interested in doing something then (PBW or something/somewhere else) then I'd be well up for a ride with some of you fine folks (I need as many...

Re: Fully-rigid 1x9 69er query

I find using a short cage mech' can make quite a positive difference. dumb question but is there any difference with the mechs other than the actual length of the cage??? i ask as it's sometimes difficult to find an 2nd hand short-cage XT mech but i could buy a used XT mech (long-cage) and then a c...

Re: Fully-rigid 1x9 69er query

thanks guys - lots to think about.

money-wise i'm thinking that i'll convert to 1x9 first and then (once the heat on my recent bike-spending dies down a bit) i'll convert it to a 69er.

should be fun!

ok.....i'll take it! i like the minimalist look of it set-up like that (and it's half the weight of my existing tarp). if i find from testing that i really need more ground-sheet coverage then i can always just pack a little scrap of tarp for my feet - no? so.....how shall we do this? do you have a ...

Fully-rigid 1x9 69er query

Evening, I've got (as my 2nd/back-up mountain bike) an On-one Inbred which is currently set-up as a single-speed (using an old rear mech as a chain tensioner). stuart, do you think this tarp would be suitable for me??? it'd need to fit me in it (i'm 6'2"), be able to be supported by nothing but pegs and being strung to/from parts of my bike and, ideally, perform some kind of ground-sheet service. i wasn't going to bother looking for a new tarp but this is ...
