Re: How many people pack a first aid kit?
Just a very basic bag of steri strips, micropore, a couple of sterile dressings, some wipes, arse cream, ibuprofen, tweezers, knife, lighter and a sewing kit for those Rambo style field surgery sessions.

Re: Weigh-in List ... IS HERE
It would have been heavier, but because I got to the start early I ended up having loads of my tea and cake. I had to re-stock when I got to Carno. :DDyffers wrote: Or you could go to extremes like Chris 'Top Ten' Narborough and remove your rear brake...

Re: Sealskin socks!?
I bought the thin mid length ones, but I've only used then for this year's WRT so far. They kept my feet dry when walking arond in wet shoes in the evenings, but I've not ridden in them. They felt cold when wet, so I put a pair of dry merino socks on underneath. Like waterprof boots - if it doesn't ...

Re: WRT - just out of interest
182 miles for the whole weekend, including riding to and from the start on Friday/Monday. Probably a 60/40 road/off-road split and 13 GRs planned but only 9 actually visited.

Re: Kit that worked/didnt?
I carried too much food and should've taken my waterproof compact camera instead of the DSLR. I didn't need the iPod and I should've taken two more guylines and two more pegs for the tarp. Sealskinz socks were a genius idea for wearing in the evenings when I had to put wet shoes back on. I'd also li...

Re: For the love of god!! - SOMEBODY!!!
It wasn't really the weather for photos :? Quite. Wish I'd taken the waterproof camera instead of my SLR. I didn't dare get it out of its dry bag most of the weekend. I did take a few though: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7215/7156194177_2bd2cc9bc8_z.jpg Breather by cnarborough , on Flickr http://f...

I'm worried that my route, legs, kit and bike might not be up to the job. I'm also really looking forward to mooching about Mid Wales, sleeping in hedges and being outside all weekend.

Thanks. It's fixed, front brake only. Been riding fixed on and off road for years, but this'll be my first fixed bikepacking trip. I blame Matt Chester.

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012
I'm sticking with tarp + bivvy bag too. Good enough in light winds and rain (as we found out on last year's WRT) and although it's no lightweight setup it's still only about 1kg along with pole, pegs, bivvy bag and lines. I was practicing pitching it on a dead flat, calm campsite in the Lakes last w...

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012
Current forecast temps for Friday and Saturday night are between 2 and 9 degrees with a chance of light rain, depending on which of 4 sites I looked at (yr.no, metoffice, xcweather and the beeb).

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012
Yay! Another 700c ;) Yes, this one's definitely not a 29er. I couldn't find any 1.8 Jones cheap enough so I went with 40c Smart Sams. Was tempted by 45c but they measure in at 47 which probably wouldn't fit my Salsa Vaya. G Got my Joneses S/H from Sam at Singular a few years ago for a tenner each I...

Cotic Roadrat. I was going to use Bontrager XRs (46mm) but there's not enough clearance if it's mucky.griffdowg wrote: what bike you taking Chris?

Re: Using Gelert Solo outer on it's own....?
I've been meaning to try this with my Macpac Microlight - it's suitable to pitch fly only*. This should be better in bad weather than a tarp, but with loads of space. Would need a lightweight groundsheet or bivvy bag too, so probably wouldn't save that much weight over the standard inner - the compl...

Only got a medium Revelate Tangle Bag, not a full size frame bag, but I can get a mug, snacks, tool kit, 2x tubes, 6x pegs, 4x guylines, lights, spare batteries, gloves, hat, first aid kit and wash kit into it. Very handy.

Re: Garmin Etrex CX problems
Does the Cx have a micro SD card? You might be better using a card reader to access that rather than going through the GPs to get to it. Garmin's software (both on the GPS and for the computer) is horrible - I ended up buying a netbook just so I could run XP to talk to my old etrex H. My new etrex 3...

Re: Most bikes ever owned at one time?
There's a 'one in, one out' policy on the shed :) and I'm at the limit of 4 complete bikes: On One Inbred 29er, Cotic Roadrat fixed CX, Airborne Zeppelin road bike and a steel fixed wheel for audax and commuting. For a while last year I also had 3 framesets (Boreas Aqua road, Giant OCR and a second ...
