Re: Custom frame tubing sizing?

1. Does the size of the seat tube affect compliance i.e. a 27.2mm internal seat tube will be more compliant than a 31.6mm? More to do with seatpost extension, material and diameter (in that order) 2. Does the shape / bends of a seat stay affect compliance i.e. straight v 'S' bends? No, in fact bendi...

Re: Dynamo lights 101

Reliable AA lights? Fenix LD20. I have had mine for 7 years+ and have used them in all conditions around the world. 2 Lithium AAs give 3hrs+, Duracells 2hrs+. 1 on the bars, 1 on the helmet is fine for 90% of stuff, 24hr races I have 2 on the bars. Commuting I have one on the bars and have done for ...

"I still don't want to sleep in a hedge like a tramp" - It was worth a try

Luckily with sprog #1 on the way I will have, in a few years, someone in the family who will think that sleeping under the stars and getting muddy is fun!

Re: Singlespeed Hubs / Freewheels

There are pretty much 2 options for reliable, servicable singlespeed rear wheels: White Industries freewheel and a good screw-on rear hub (Surly, DMR, Phil Wood, Paul...) Hope SS - take some spare pawls and springs in a little ziploc bag if you are paranoid. Use a nice wide-base sprocket like Surly ...

Re: Something like waxed cotton shorts?

I have the howies Epic Cotton trousers and the shorts. While not waterproof (and they were only sold as water repellant anyway) they are great in light showers and dry very fast from a soaking. They are cut for cycling, no big seams on the ass and no rear pockets (redundant and more seams where you ...

For a similar issue (Pace lock out lever and WTB dirtdrops incompatibility issue!) I had Lee Cooper braze a steel headset spacer with a 25.4mm dia stub on the side. Quick rattle can black and a bar end plug and sorted :) Run in place of a 30mm headset spacer and worked really well...if it could be o...

Jones Loop bars and handlebar sling?

Hi, Has anyone used a Revelate-type handlebar sling on a pair of Jones loop bars? I am wondering if a pair would play nicely with the sling on the front part of the loop rather than on the bit that goes through the stem? I am thinking that with it there the head tube strap round the stem it might ho...
