Re: That there gravel race, what bike poll?

Interesting thing lights. If I could I'd like my LEDs to have the light colour of halogens, which gives a nice soft light. I find the blueish/white of new LEDs just a bit harsh to look at. In terms of angle, Guitar Ted has discussed light set up for gravel riding, he points out that lights mounted u...

Re: That there gravel race, what bike poll?

Because it's all I've got to bring to the fight I'll be on a SS Singular Gryphon with H-bar loop bars. Not sure about tires yet, about to experiment with some 42c Conti cross rides on a tubeless set up, but may go with something wider. Not really knowing the route, a bigger dilemma is which gear rat...

I had considered seeing whether there'd be any interest ... it might be worth doing.

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

Yay, I have my e-email but yet to scan the route in any detail but that's a lot of riding for only one re-supply :o. Now my task is to loose a load of winter weight gain and figure out what gear ratio to run on the SS? It's going to to be a fun 13 weeks. Not long is it!

Re: Highland Trail Race - Good Luck

Recovery, OK I didn't finish but still rode 300 miles on a ridgid SS and I scratched on Tuesday. It's now Friday and my legs feel fine. To be honest they still felt strong on tuesday when I scratched. I can run at my normal pace, I can cycle hard but my arse is still tender. I still have a bit of a ...

Re: Highland Trail Race - Good Luck

I and the guys I rode with had no knee issues but did suffer from either tired feet, Achilles problems. I was Ok as I went with flat pedals, power grips and inov-8 fell shoes. We all suffered with saddle sore and sore hands. And good effort Ian, I don't know how you pulled that ride out the bag!

Re: A definitive list of long distance rides...?

I rode Dave's coast to coast or I should say I rode from Caernarfon to Mac where I had a pizza and caught the train home. `the route just did not 'do it' for me. I've ridden loads in Wales but there must be a better route more easterly route in North Wales.

Re: Trans Cambrian Way Double?

How exciting. I've long wondered why the TCW has receive so little attention in the recent trend for doubles? I rode the TCW 'E-W' last summer on a single speed with a bunch of kit and then 2 months later rode the BB200 with gears and less kit, the later was much tougher. So I expect to see some nut...

Re: Weekend ... anyone out?

Next weekend (26-27th) I'll be trying out a route I've mapped from Central Birmingham to Sheffield. It's a nice 120 miles taking in lots of canal and bridleway to get to Ashbourne where it picks up the Tissington trail before heading across the Peaks. Not sure where to stay overnight yet, but think ...

Re: Bear Bones 200 Tracking Page

Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful weekend out in the hills. Loved the route, a real slog at times, but great to go places I'd never been before. And thanks to Clive (and Jase) for pulling me round and the constant chat :)

Re: Bear Bones 200 Route Details.

I'd not get to hung up on the ascent, programs always differ, I always +- up to 900m. All I know is that over 4000m for 200km using bikehike makes it lumpy, which is fine, we are cycling in Wales.

Re: Bear Bones 200 Route Details.

The route looks good, just hope my legs are up to the task after 3 weeks off the bike. The route works just fine. I've uploaded the route via bikehike.co.uk and it gives me 4459 m of ascent. I can donwload from that website in to a number of different formats ie a gpx track (but I just used Base Cam...

Re: How old are you?

I'm 36, have always ridden bikes and just see bikepacking/bivvying as a way to ride very long distances even quicker. When I start wanting to lay on the beach and not ride my bike then I know the crisis has started!
