My first campstove was a solid fuel burner that folded out, got it from the Scout shop as a teenager with a army surplus pan. I thought the same too, I always thought a Ti bike was for life, at that price for a few tubes! Maybe steel isn't so bad. I'm more inclined to believe that quality of the tubing has gone downhill, wasn't the ti in days gone by and byproduct of the soviet defence program?

I think it's a necessity unless you have a monster trailer to haul behind your bike and think 129lb is a decent bike weight to pedal around
