Re: Highest number of consecutive nights out?

On a Radio Five interview with Simon Mayo a while ago, I heard Ray Mears say he spends roughly 200+ nights a year outdoors. No evidence of it, other than hearing it with my own ears, but according to this I was wrong :?

As The Flat One's spot doesn't show anything past 3.15pm yesterday, I expect they've gone to the pub instead ;)

Re: UK self supported events What next?

Either linear or circular work for me. My Wales coast to coast trip was good for being a journey and seeing a change in landscape as I progressed. Circular routes are equally good; BB200 works well and CL300 looks good too. However, there's a clear distinction between the navigational type events li...

Re: UK self supported events What next?

I'm always surprised more folk haven't had a stab at trying to better the time set for the Trans Cambrian (I believe it stands at 12H 10M)
It's on my list. I need to ride the thing in one go first, possibly with a night out. I do know most of it already, but not how some it links together.

Here's two of my set-ups: Wildcat Gear Clouded Leopard, Mountain Lion harness and Revelate seat pack ready for the four day Wales coast to coast (nothing on my back for this trip): http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6235/6208224011_12a446daf1.jpg At Shrewsbury by ianbarrington , on Flickr Slightly differ...

Re: UK self supported events What next?

The BB200 route is there 365 days a year Would you accept a challenge on the current course record at any time of the year then, or only during the official event? I just didn't stop That's the best strategy IMO. I find having a GPS that records moving time and total time to be a good motivator to ...

Re: UK self supported events What next?

Can't see any commercial player organising an event, there's nothing in it for them with our bridleway and liability laws. I'd like to see it stay that way tbh. Taking cues from the US long distance bikepacking events, such things in the UK should also be free. I only heard about the CL300 4/5 days...

Re: UK self supported events What next?

I agree that there's scope for something in between the BB200 or CL300 and Aidan's obviously very committing EWE. The next step up in terms of distance I suppose are 400 and 500km routes. Wales North to South is around 400, and the setting of a definitive course for people to test themselves on, eit...

You can't cook in Ti, unless you have a very controllable flame You remember that Red Dwarf episode where Kryten becomes human: Lister: Any problems? Kryten: Well, just one or two. In fact I've compiled a little list if you'll indulge me. Now then, uh, my optical system doesn't appear to have a zoo...

Re: Cooking in a bowl, not as stupid as it sounds.

Oddly SP 1400ml pot is lighter than their 900ml pot although they appear the same design
1400 is 210g, 900 is 175g according to the website you quote above :?

As far as bowls are concerned, if you're just boiling water for re-hydration of dried food or a brew, I can't see any disadvantage.

Come on Ian, even I knew where the first pic was from. Yeah yeah, now you say it after I've given out the answer ;) The second pic would impress me though. Not much to go on here. Stu, is that broken cage one of yours?

The elite ones might be OK for only 900g of gear. A 750ml bottle will weigh ~800 grams when full of water.

Re: Weekend ... anyone out?

I'd heard it described as 5k of superb, serpentine singletrack that's fast and flowing Hmm, I remember it as a rock strewn technical/thrutchy track that commanded 100% attention to keep the bike and self upright. Normally I don't mind such challenges, but the Cowlyd track has an extra ingredient th...
