That's where I parked/camped for my LL200 and for the Winter Jennride too.thenorthwind wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 6:21 pm There's a parking bit off the lane towards Kentmere (but before you leave the village) which always seems to have a couple of campervans in it, but I'm never sure whether they're just parked near the owners' houses.

Re: Folding Bikes - Experiences..
+1 for a Brompton. Perhaps top of my list of bikes I regret getting rid of, and can be found cheap if you get lucky. IIRC, I bought mine for £250, had it a few years then sold for £350. Plenty of folk do plenty of distance on them and they're surprisingly capable: I saw a pair of tourers on loaded B...

Re: Mint Gravel - South Lakeland 160km - 15th June
Im itching for another trip to the Lakes, my one and only visit on the bike was a bit of a debacle. Sounds like an itch that needs scratching then! if I have learnt one thing is that miles in the Lake District are longer than regular miles. They can be! We've a good mix of terrain on the route so t...

Mm is that the perfect taper ride.. But of course it is! It's a busy time of year, innit? We left it rather too late to 'own' any date, but looked to pick a weekend that didn't clash with anything else too similar which proved tricky. Even locally, it's the same weekend as the Sam Houghton bu...

Mint Gravel - South Lakeland 160km - 15th June
I'm not entirely sure how this is gonna play out, but I'm arranging some kind of free-to-ride self-supported Mint Gravel event on 15th June, and you're all invited! Mint Gravel is a 160km ↔︎ 3900m ↕︎ mixed-terrain loop around South Lakeland. It's roughly half road and half 'northern gravel', so good...

I'm biased, but as per my signature for more info and GPX, I can thoroughly recommend 'Mint Gravel' for a long day out or split over a couple of days in South Lakeland.

New Mezcals and new Peyote model. Bikepacking.com has a fair list of suitable full sussers . I lusted after a Salsa Spearfish for a few years, but really couldn't justify it. I'm on an Orbea Occam TR. Bought it for similar situations and love it. 130mm travel. Carbon and alloy versions available depending on budget. There's two diff...

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?
Another more DIY thing I've tried with some success is fixing a drj0n Double Trouble Triple to bar extensions, either full aero bars or mini ones as (really badly) pictured here. That works well to hold a roll up away from the wheel, and obviously doubles up as alternative hand position too, but the...

I went down the Salsa EXP Series Anything Cradle Side-Load Kit route having had the cradle recommended by a few folk and finding the whole kit for sale ex-demo and dirt cheap(ish). Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race on Wikipedia Mrs Hyppy is the runner in our household and gave the 24 hour race scene a good crack before moving onto longer stuff a few years back including running some of the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence races. Apparently Tics are already rampant up there. Permethrin lotion keeps the feckers off. Hard to come by, we bought our last stash from India .😎 In checking ingredients, that's used for treating crabs, yeah? I'm not sure how closely a pharmacist would need to check down there, so maybe available from...

I don't know the Trek 920 but looking at specs it seems to be a 3.04 kg frameset, yeah? That does seem kinda chunky but I wonder how much of that is having alloy (with steel steerer?) rather than carbon forks. Is it worth weighing the current forks and seeing how much weight you could save just swit...

Satisfying new pads. Hope they don't squeal like nasty Shimano!! I found some part worn replacements in the spares bin and they're squealing like owt! Possibly contaminated, mind, as I've no idea where they came from. I reckon I usually get a couple of thousand km from pads, so think these could ju...

Had a front brake that had been a little noisy on the past couple of GRVL rides so thought I'd sort before this evening's outing. Maybe a left it a little long … ~760km ridden on that on my regular terrain which doesn't tend to be that harsh on brake pads. I'm not sure if stock SRAM pads are just a...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
Technically I'd say no, but I'm giving them a pass as a) CyclingUK/CTC are the national cycling organisation as far as I'm concerned, and b) it was a Steve Behr piece which makes for a nice blast from the MTB past.
