Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

This month's BAM was a little different to previous months. I had an outdoor first aid course booked, so instead of driving down in the morning and back afterwards, I combined it with this month's BAM and rode down after work the night before the course. https://joshransley.com/site/images/blog/may-...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

(This is a delayed post for April's BAM I did on the 28th.) I've lost count of the number of times this month's BAM got pushed back. I'd originally planned to sneak off and sleep in the hills near to our Airbnb while in Wales on a family holiday early in the month, but I wasn't ready for the level ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

This month's BAM wasn't a particularly exciting one. The route was 3× longer than the previous two months, but 100% more boring. I'd planned to meet my dad for a ride at our local trails the next day, so I was working to a fixed location for a route and ended up with 35km all on tarmac. Nothing part...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?

I have a set of Nikon Prostaff 7s 10x30 (which were about £160) which are a of a nice size and quality, waterproof too. They have a few different models at different price points. Or, the RSPB range (which are Viking binoculars rebranded) are good value too. We have a set of the Puffin ones, which a...

Re: I made pogies

what happens if you have to take your hands out, e.g. to signal Have you added anything to attach them to the end of the bar? I avoided doing so as much as possible and accepted I’d get cold hands for a bit until I can stop to get it back on properly. I can get my hand in there a bit while it’s on ...

Re: I made pogies

Just used these on a quick ride into town and they are exactly what I needed – they kept the wind & sleet off my gloves. It was around freezing and just one extra sheet of fabric meant I was warm with just 'normal' windproof mtb gloves on underneath. Also I found that having the 'bar hole' alrea...

I made pogies

I'm far from the most accomplished MYOGer, but I enjoy the process. My hands get cold easily when riding in cold weather and while I wear windproof gloves I find that they aren't really windproof. I also wanted to avoid wearing thicker, insulated gloves as I find them cumbersome. So, pogies seemed l...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

The closer to my chosen date (Tuesday night) it got, the lower the forecast dropped for overnight, bottoming out at -3ºC. I have camped in temps as cold as this once before, but it was in a tent, at a campsite – doing it in a random field after work was a bit different. Being a mid-week BAM I left a...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I've lurked for a while, but now I've registered and am posting about my first foray into BAM. After umming and ahing for a while about whether to go local or 'make it worth it' by going slightly further for I decided to be sensible and stray no further than an hour away from home (which, spoilers, ...
