Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

So I've been putting it off hopefully for some cold dry weather Boxing day apparently but was driving to Hull. It has indeed been grim. ocally and just had too do 360 miles in 15 days to get my annual mileage. Not at all fun with all that wind and rain and got blown off the mast road it was that st...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

The winter bivvy weekend was my planned tap out from my first BaM,the weather had other ideas. Organised a Yorkshire Dales meet-up with a bothy stay in mind. Dates in December are tight family wise, and we both turned up with fire supplies and good intentions. Never enjoyable setting off when lashin...

Well done to anyone who got it, might apply one day ,but I fancy actually riding it at a more leisurely pace first. Maybe 2024 I could commit & pull my finger out?

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I got November’s bivvy ticked off at the end of last week (24th-25th), the second month in succession where I decided to revisit a site I’d used three years ago. On this occasion the spot in question was on an estate in East Lothian. Among the organised activities on offer there is clay pigeon shoo...

'Roadie'??? <makes sign of the cross> . Nice to see some frost there. Water frozen by morning? All character-building stuff. Commiserations with the gut-rot, 'Lip. I must say that's one of the main things that would upset a bivvy for me. Did you get to the bottom (arg, sorry, sorry... insens...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

November BaM done locally last weekend. The planned Dales ride went tits up,so I rode 20 miles out into the closest decent woods. Set off after tea with the big front light joining me. Pretty okay conditions soon changed after only 40 mins when the rain started. I was out now and had the tent so plo...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I'm just logging my October BaM.. was the BB200 2nd weekend. I've just started feeling normal again...was certainly one way of ruining myself physically and mentally. I'm not complaining, I actually enjoyed most of it. The Strata Florida section in the dark ended up being the crux, pushing up the 25...

Re: BB200 Oct 2023 VIDEO recap - A rookie mistake(?)

Taking videos something I really enjoy and it takes an awful lot of time. At least for me (and I'm not the type that stages shots or goes around with a drone). I don't know how really fast people do it. Having now done a couple of these events it really makes me wonder if ultras are for me, as ther...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Nice report stinginglip. Enjoy the BB200. Peaks200 is a mighty beast in the wet. One of the locals told me the white Peak can be trecherous due to slipperiness and it shouldn't be attempted in other than summer months  I can vouch for the locals advice..one of the group is riding in the area...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Sorry all, totally forgot to log September's outing. Ventured out with two other chaps with the intention of doing the Peaks 200 route. Day 1 started at Hadfield and was great weather wise. Decent progress was made until a horrible muddy section somewhere in the white peak totally clogged both my wh...

So I take it it's the A90? Chest or side zip? Any chance you could measure the length? Says up to 6ft, which I am. My big agnes mat is pretty huge and doesn't fit inside my current bivvy, hence the search for another.

Agreed on the glentress section fully loaded, can skip no probs..I would again anyway. Was talking with a peebles local after I'd finished, and he couldn't understand the addition of those trails when he said there's better bikepacking friendly options. Also, there were some locked gates & fence...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I parked near a telephone exchange building opposite a church on Shawpark Rd..its just down from the police station & free, also can pick the route up really easily. I recommend a Selkirk start as personally I think from there to Glentress is the hardest section on route. Take your hike a bike le...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

The world mtb champs at Glentress was a must see event for me,the last and only one I attended was in France 1992(I think) I'd booked the full week off and decided on doing the Capital Trail but with a Selkirk start/finish so I could easily then go check out the racing. Got rolling about 1pm after t...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

7/12 North York Moors 300 was my plan for July's BaM. Rode with Mr Riley from Stoke who enjoyed his 1st ever night in a bivvy bag up on the Moor above Levisham with 113 miles in the bag. Sunday started about 5am which worked well with shops and cafés being open for much needed resupply. The wind and...

Definitely good putting more faces with the names off here. I was on the blue Jones(Martin) riding with David on the dark red Niner. We had a great time and got back just before 6pm. We stopped (9.30pm ish)up on the Moor above Levisham with the Highland cows as it was David's 1st experience in a biv...
