Re: One Night Out
Excellent writing, very mindful. Got as far as, "it will end, if I just keep moving" and laughed. Know that feeling. Will read the rest later. Edit: Enjoyed The Rider by Tim Krabbe and enjoyed this very much too. Currently sat on the sofa thinking it's not going to be tonight, but maybe to...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Envious of the hammock. Any tips for bivvying when the ground is mostly water?

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Yeah, there's a surprising amount of material in the wrap, as I found while sawing it off. Strong though. Could be made much lighter I reckon.

Re: What back up frame?
Quick ten miles before breakfast on tracks rough enough to indicate any problems and all good, apart from a slight dull clicking but I think that's the non drive side bottom bracket bearing, which was feeling rough. New one on order and fingers crossed all will be well. https://i.postimg.cc/Hk7JF3wg...

Re: What back up frame?
New frame hopefully not needed. Will find out for sure tomorrow. After stripping it all back, epoxy-ed in a section of broom handle to fill in the gap. https://i.postimg.cc/RCdWgdSH/PXL-20240515-200820781.jpg Added some epoxy filler to smooth the transitions. https://i.postimg.cc/mDNPfN7K/PXL-202405...

Re: What back up frame?
Crude but effective, with luck. It was fine for ages, until the cf tube de-bonded from the bamboo socket that was the remains of the cracked down tube, resulting in flex while pedalling. I reckon it'll polish out with a combination of epoxy and fibrefix (now fiberweld).

Re: What back up frame?
Good shouts all. Used to have a Genesis Day Zero as a commuter that was a lovely ride, if/because a bit flexy.

What back up frame?
The bamboo bike is in bits, or more accurately something like the hundred thousand rivets flying in close formation that was the Avro Shackleton. Long story short, the bottom bracket junction has had to be completely stripped and while I'm reasonably confident I can build it up again in time for the...

Glad to hear you're on the mend Jimmy. I keep forgetting you're East Lothian - fancy a joint bivvi in May? You can show me round a bit.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
https://i.postimg.cc/RVCxyHyQ/PXL-20240420-211845507-2.jpg A quick overnighter to a spot I camped at with a mate for his birthday last year. He sadly died at the start of this month after a fall in the hills near Crianlarich. The funeral is on Friday, so I took the tent to work on his eulogy. So ma...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Got meself a slug plug repair kit which will hopefully deal with most issues. If it comes to popping in an inner tube, that's a problem for future me. Will be sure to let you know how it goes.

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Thanks Shaf, good advice. I've been avoiding tubeless for years and got away with it, but four punctures in as many months decided me.
Presumably you have to give the bike a run/tyres a spin regularly?

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Nice one Jimmy. I was at the Museum of Flight today for the first time, getting my ear bent about Concorde. Beautiful plane. I've been looking at hillforts and castles around there so might poach a night in your manor soon. Sorry to hear you're out of it Dave - shame the night in the YHA doesn't cou...

Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge
Talk about upping the ante; I'm still counting hours, not days. Maybe once the kids are a bit older - not even sure I could get away with two nights at this point. Loving the concept though and sounds like a few are well on the way there already.
