I had reached a state where I didn't care about not getting a spot and was almost relieved.
Now I'm looking at photos from the route and bikes and I'm grumpy again!

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
I don't think anyone wants to climb Jacobs Ladder but I'll keep the suggestion in mind haha WRONG! I had a blast pushing up that twisty path, just the right side of hard for me. I meant no one - in the right mind - wants to climb up Jacobs Ladder (i.e. in reverse of what you've done) especially on ...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Ben and Dave, You are officially the only plastic-free finishers of the Tor Divide. You are also the first plastic free finishers on each route. Well done both, I've refunded your entries in full. Not that it matters, but it's also great to see that you're amongst the fastest finishers proving that ...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Very enjoyable weekend! The whole area was pretty much new to me, so every climb, descent & view was a treat. Very busy with work/life so I'd barely checked the route before starting. Approaching it with a "what will be will be" attitude which has always served me well in the past. As...

At 2am there was a persistent drone buzzing overhead. I assumed that this was the NT looking for fire starters?? Probably my mate Tomo. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6nuvRENxbJr0E0GjDekPWoWYTf8GcEVpLWLxM0/?img_index=1 So the few times I bivvied there during recces it was a drone and not some giant m...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Congrats Dave and Ben for being the only plastic free finishers. A few more people attempted the event plastic free but they didn't finish it or gave up on it during the ride. It wasn't easy to resist the temptation of buying bottles in that heat, and having to avoid single use plastic isn't as easy...

Re: The Tor Divide - bikepacking challenge across the Peak District
Thanks to everyone that took part in the event!!!
I know there were a few of you and apologies if I haven't managed to speak with everyone, it was "a bit" hectic at the start and finish.
It was great meeting Matthew and seeing so many smiling bikepackers.

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
I fear my choice of bike (the only one I have!) might have given some people the impression it's a gravel event 😆 It's an all-terrain event and, while there's no mad hike-a-bike, some people on gravel bikes will definitely be a bit "shaken" after the first loop! Having said that, I've ridd...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Thanks Phil. Hopefully there will be next year :)
There should be a couple of people from the forum which I look forward to meet and to get feedback from after the event.
Fingers crossed the weather is kind to the riders.

Re: Missing the point?
I think it's great news that these trails have opened and are being advertised to get more people to try cycling. The word "adventure" it's just used to make them sound cooler. Not much else to say really.... What may look like an easy spin for some may feel like a proper adventure for som...

Re: Mint Gravel - South Lakeland 160km - 15th June
Im itching for another trip to the Lakes, my one and only visit on the bike was a bit of a debacle. Timing is a bit tricky for me and there's actually an ultra in Manchester on the same date organised by a brand that shall not/cannot be named on the forum  although this one looks more manageabl...

Re: North York Moors 300
It looks like a fantastic route and event.
I've only ridden in the area once, is the 300km route something people aim to do in one go? (Like BB200) or it requires a good 2 days?
On paper it looks ideal for a gravel bike.

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
I'm looking to upgrade my monstergravel bike and I'm looking at wheels first. I'm a clumsy 90kg(14+stones) rider and use my bike on a bit of everything from tarmac to singletrack, including some gnarly Peak District trails. Tyre widths I use go from 45mm to 2.3". I have 2 cheap 29" alloy ...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
Thanks all for the suggestions. A doubt i have is if 25mm (internal width) rims would be more appropriate for the riding I do, or if I should just go with bombproof 30mm wheels (which would probably be too big for 45mm tyres). Any heavy-handed person out there riding 25mm rims? 30mm seems to be the...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
Remember 10+ years ago we were all putting 2.3 tyres mtb tyres on 19 mm internal width rims perhaps even a 2.5. My SS still does with 26 ers I ride 3 " tyres on 30 mm internal and a 38 mm on a 19 mm ( road) IMHO its just the current trend ( go wider) rather than it really matters I wasn't ridi...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
Also consider blue flow wheels (Nottingham based). They build with hope if that’s what you’re after. I quite liked their warranty when I was looking. In the end I’ve gone to DT Swiss rims and hubs, built by the Keep pedalling. They’ve done all my current wheels and have been most excellent That's g...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
Hi Valerio. How on earth are you 90kg. From the vids you look like a racing whippet?? Anyway, if you're spending good money on wheels I'd defo go with some hubs that last. Hope and DT have stood the test of time. But, if you can afford and plan to take said wheels on the crazy Highland Trail 550 so...

Re: The Tor Divide - bikepacking challenge across the Peak District
One final - I promise! - message to say that entries to the event close next Saturday. £59 ticket gives you 2 GPXs one for the 250km route and one for the 150km route. Pick one and complete it in less than 36hrs to be listed as finisher. £5 back if you travel to the start by public transport or bike...

Wtd: XL gravel/tourer/commuter bike - preferably steel
Looking for a bike that can take full mudguards, 35mm tyres, has drop bars and it's not too slow on a road ride.
Ideally a full bike but I'll consider a frame&fork if in good conditions and cheap.
