Re: North York Moors 300

It looks like a fantastic route and event.

I've only ridden in the area once, is the 300km route something people aim to do in one go? (Like BB200) or it requires a good 2 days?

On paper it looks ideal for a gravel bike.

Re: New (carbon?) wheels

I'm looking to upgrade my monstergravel bike and I'm looking at wheels first. I'm a clumsy 90kg(14+stones) rider and use my bike on a bit of everything from tarmac to singletrack, including some gnarly Peak District trails. Tyre widths I use go from 45mm to 2.3". I have 2 cheap 29" alloy ...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels

Thanks all for the suggestions. A doubt i have is if 25mm (internal width) rims would be more appropriate for the riding I do, or if I should just go with bombproof 30mm wheels (which would probably be too big for 45mm tyres). Any heavy-handed person out there riding 25mm rims? 30mm seems to be the...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels

Remember 10+ years ago we were all putting 2.3 tyres mtb tyres on 19 mm internal width rims perhaps even a 2.5. My SS still does with 26 ers I ride 3 " tyres on 30 mm internal and a 38 mm on a 19 mm ( road) IMHO its just the current trend ( go wider) rather than it really matters I wasn't ridi...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels

Also consider blue flow wheels (Nottingham based). They build with hope if that’s what you’re after. I quite liked their warranty when I was looking. In the end I’ve gone to DT Swiss rims and hubs, built by the Keep pedalling. They’ve done all my current wheels and have been most excellent That's g...

Re: New (carbon?) wheels

Hi Valerio. How on earth are you 90kg. From the vids you look like a racing whippet?? Anyway, if you're spending good money on wheels I'd defo go with some hubs that last. Hope and DT have stood the test of time. But, if you can afford and plan to take said wheels on the crazy Highland Trail 550 so...

Re: The Tor Divide - bikepacking challenge across the Peak District

One final - I promise! - message to say that entries to the event close next Saturday. £59 ticket gives you 2 GPXs one for the 250km route and one for the 150km route. Pick one and complete it in less than 36hrs to be listed as finisher. £5 back if you travel to the start by public transport or bike...

Wtd: XL gravel/tourer/commuter bike - preferably steel

Looking for a bike that can take full mudguards, 35mm tyres, has drop bars and it's not too slow on a road ride.
Ideally a full bike but I'll consider a frame&fork if in good conditions and cheap.

Re: Recommend me a decent stills camera

Fuji XT30 owner here. I've got a couple of lenses (standard 18-55 zoom and a really wide lens) with autofocus, as well as a bunch of old prime and zooms that i took of my dad's Minolta and got on ebay for cheap. For shooting while cycling I bought a 27mm lens which I find quite good when it works bu...

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

So true.. a few trips by ferry or train and you wonder why tagging such a hassle of an experience inc the likelihood of bike loss or damage onto each the end of the trip was so normal. Compare that to rolling onto a ferry or the European Bike Express coach.. £100 return flight to Europe with bike (...

Re: Trailmech hubs

As the ignorant that I am, my understanding is that better hubs have better seals, are typically easier to maintain, have better engagement(?) and - which might the most important feature - are easier to find replacement parts for. I had an issue my the freewheel of my novatech hub and couldn't find...

Re: Trailmech hubs

No, but a mate has a coupleof pairs from Silt wheels and they've impressed, including a crash replacement rim. https://siltmtb.com/products/xc-carbon-29-1-272g Another really good price but not much info on the hubs. Has he had them for a while? Weight and width look good, although I'm not too sure...

I'll start caring about the environment as soon as big corporations, useless self -serving politicians and pontificating billionaires like Musk, Bezos and Gates actually pull their heads out of their arses and stop hypocritically lecturing normal people about how they're killing the planet! ...

Trailmech hubs

Hi All,

I'm looking to possibly replace my wheels and I came across Zolla wheels and their Poltava wheels
https://zolla.cc/product/poltava-29er-wheels/

I was wondering if anyone here has first hand experience with them and/or with Trailmech hubs.

why we did it. Money, greed. power, entitlement, stupidity ... am I close? Trouble is, even when under the guise of green, we continue to play the same games ... there's a new proposal to erect a windfarm (they now call them energy parks) on the hills opposite the Star Inn (a place many of you will...

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

If one TRULY cares about the environment, they shouldn't organise a long distance ultra-racing event. Regardless on the travel policy to get to the start. There's nothing sustainable in cycling 15hrs/week and wearing out components, traveling via car/plane/boat to an event in a different continent, ...

Justinas has finally caught up with Drikus.

Some insane pace that...although based on previous years, I wouldn't be surprised if they both collapse and Ube ends up winning it.

Hats off to Cynthia Carson, she's smashing it
