As John says, if you're running B+ in place of a 2.3" or similar sized 29" wheel then the change will be minimal. If you're hoping to run 2.3" on the 27.5 rims, then I'd likely not bother.

Finally Evolution has made us so capable in walking and running (and sweating) we can outpace any animal in the African bush You genuinely think a human is the fastest land animal in the African bush ? I dont even think we can go the furthest in day but we certainly cannot "outpace" every animal th...

After much deliberating, we decided to try and get it in as early as was practical.Argh....
Had assumed (incorrect) it may have been delayed to the August BH weekend.

Re: Whats better than a Hunka (crappy AK) but not?
You'll struggle to find something as good for anywhere near the same money. RAB Storm might be worth a look - it's tough, fully waterproof but will cost around £100. Another option worthy of consideration would be a Sierra Designs Backcountry bivvy but it'll likely be over £100 unless you can drop o...

Re: Borah bivy or mesh inner for a Gatewood.
The 'standard width Borah is pretty big and can easily fit your average American*, winter bag and thick mat with room to spare.
*No offence to the average American but you do tend to a little bigger than the average.

Same as anywhere really - white, cold and sometimes slippery. However, being Scottish means that it's completely free to settle on the floor wherever it likes. What is snow like on the HT550?

Re: Borah bivy or mesh inner for a Gatewood.
I'll just add here that when using a lightweight bivvy with netting, I never bother to tie / hang the thing. I simply get in, zip it up and go to sleep. As a side sleeper I rarely notice the netting resting on my head. Next question. Where the hell do I buy a Borah bivy in the post brexit minefield ...

Re: Anyone using Salsa carbon forks ?
Really depends on the cage and what's in them Tony. Most have a weight limit but if ever I use cages, I always try to pack the least weight and most bulk in them. You can sometimes have problems catching them on tight trails and I've found they do a reasonable job as acting as a wind brake.

I'd buy a Borah or similar. Very light and roomy.

Whilst driving to the vets yesterday afternoon, a Merlin came out of the trees and flew a few feet ahead for 50 yards or so before veering off back into the trees - lovely she was.

Re: Great North Trail vs Pennine Bridleway
Yes, my understanding is that they're one and the same. The GNT is simply a combination of existing routes.
I think over the course of something that long and especially within the UK, there'll always be a few dull bits (subjective), it's just par for the course.

Re: 3/4 length sleeping mats
I always used 3/4 mats and found that as long as it stopped below my knees, the sudden transition wasn't an issue ... obviously someone taller may have more issue finding something suitable.
