Re: Bike choice appreciation society

It's not too fancy, but a totally ground-up build so everything was a choice, and it ended up working really well as a whole. Wallet-conscious randonneur.

Re: Suggest a bivy bag?

I've got an MLD Superlight which I use on every trip, never let me down since I got it in 2010, Ron calls the bathtub fabric pro silnylon which I think is just 40D. Also got a BG bivvy but it's not a patch on the MLD in terms of quality and finish Treated myself to an eVent Soul bivvy last year but...

Re: Suggest a bivy bag?

It's not super porous but I used it without a groundsheet a and always noticed a bit of wetness on the bottom. At home while washing, I tried pooling some water in the outside bottom and the other side was damp. Haven't really tried anything much more conclusive. It's not a huge deal, but I'm not su...

Re: Suggest a bivy bag?

Borah (non-dcf) floors are not really waterproof, which may or may matter, but good to have in mind since they're advertised as such.

FS: Deschutes (gone)

Pictures pending. Used for about 3 nights total. No good reason for leaving it sit, just happens to be a bit surplus. It's the one with a black patch on top, got it around the end of 2019. Kinda criminal how it's just sitting around. Seam sealed, no marks or anything.

Gone!

Re: Bikepacking tent

spent several hours trying to get an acceptable pitch on a perfectley flat lawn. I've got a Deschutes, basically the Lunar Solo without the sewn in floor. I must have tried dozens of times to get a good pitch on my lawn and I'm never happy with it. For example, pitched in the daylight at home for a...

FS: Restrap 14l saddlebag £65 [SOLD]

Got it used, rode a handful of times. Has a scuff on the bottom of the holster from the seatclamp, otherwise unremarkable as far as I can see. I laced it a bit differently than the default to get the holster to be slightly narrower, should be easy to reverse. £65 + £5 postage. I'm limited to one pic...

I've got an old small zeitgeist but feel a bit attached to it. It's cotton duck on the outside though, I think I saw an old post of yours asking about xpac zeitgeists?

However, would a carradice Cadet suit your fancy? It may work as a front bag, I have it set up like that but am not in love with it.

I don't hang here that much, so I missed this thread when it was active, but maybe I can get someone's ear.?

I've been wanting to buy and convert a van to live from for a long time now, but I'm a student, and I don't have much money. Can this be done for under £3k? Please don't crush my dreams.

Re: Quilts.... again

There will be plenty praise for the quilt and probably the taiga line (probably add some width for the taigas), but don't knock the comforters. They're maybe a bit fiddly and potentially drafty, but also lighter and cheaper.

Re: Borah bivy or mesh inner for a Gatewood.

I keep meaning to test how waterproof the tyvek bag really is - I think the seams wouldn't hold up under any saturation. That said, the back is a solid panel, so it should be fine in place of a groundsheet. It's only no use for bugs, where the borah comes in. There are cheap bivvies like the borah o...

Re: Borah bivy or mesh inner for a Gatewood.

Although I just got it and only set it up in the garden only, the borah bivvy fits in terms of surface area but the head tieout is a bit tricky. The panel is not under tension and the inner attachment is not really high enough. I was meaning to experiment a bit but just didn't get round to it. I ta...
