Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
Target 72kg 11/2 - 78.6kg 17/1 - 78.2kg Was kind of hoping for a little more than that. Snacking much more under-control and diet healthier. The odd treat has been had. Let's see how it looks over a few weeks. On the subject of alcohol, I was considering going beer free for Jan but instead will allo...

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
So, first weigh in this morning after a brief run. As with others, my scales give strange readings. 1st before shower was 79.4kg and TBH I wasn't that surprised at that. If that's accurate, then that might be the heaviest I've been. Weigh in after shower is 78.6kg and that feels right, so I'm going ...

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
Ok, I'm back in. Will weigh next Saturday. No idea what it'll be but aim is to get to about 72kg, lose the paunch, a bit of strength training and feel less bloated. Will try and get off the beer for a month at least and maybe til my birthday in March. Cutting out snacking will be difficult as there ...

Re: 2025 - A year to look forward to? What are your plans?
Simples for me.... ...on bike to just do more riding. There are still a bunch of local routes to get round and from there I'm looking to see some sweet bivvy spots. Rebellion Way near Easter time and at least one, but maybe a couple of multi-day in Scotland. I'd like to aim for a trip to The Netherl...

Re: 2024 reflection
Boab...I hope things get easier for you and the family. Doesn't sound great. Stick in there. 1) Favourite outing (not necessarily by bike) - Cairngorms Loop ridden late August. Lack of miles in my legs and living in the very flat East Anglia meant I found a lot harder than I anticipated. Completing ...

Re: Carrying stuff on a small frame
My mountain bike frame is a medium but gravel bike is a small. I bought a med Blackburn Outpost Elite full framebag that fits the small gravel perfectly but squeezes slightly (but ok) into the mountain bike. Designed to take a bladder but I stuck my second water bottle into it and it still had space...

Re: Christmas presents
I also dislike receiving things I would never use, like those hilariously funny joke presents...toilet golf!? Very occasionally I get something well thought-out. I'm quite specific when I want something. Something for the bike would have to be what I choose. This year it's a pair of decent waterproo...

Re: Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
Have the juniper trails been updated to a vibram sole? Reviews of nikes own efforts at trail grip in the wet has always put me off trying their trail shoes despite loving their road going zoom x based shoes a lot. Hmmm...nothing I can see references vibram. Can't say I was looking TBH. I'd agree wi...

Re: Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
Thanks again all. Yes, a pair of Nike Juniper trail running shoes arrived today. Not gore-tex and not expensive but Nike always seems to give me a good fit and favourite running shoes to date were Nike, so I went with those. I'll get a couple pairs of merino socks too. I keep thinking I should maybe...

Re: Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
Ok, cheers, all. Maybe I'll stick to buying non-gore-tex and pick up some waterproof socks instead. Saying that, I've a pair of sealskinz socks that I just wouldn't want to wear for running. Maybe a specific running pair would be better suited. Failing that, merino might be a better option and just ...

Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
Hi, need to replace my running shoes. I run mainly off-road and some of the routes get very wet and slippery during winter. I'm also running through some longer grass in some sections. So, I'm after a pair of gore-tex running shoes to help stop them, and my feet, getting saturated. I don't expect mi...

Re: What are you listening to now?
Just bought the latest Godspeed You! Black Emperor album (digital download) and having a first listen, very loudly in headphones. Will probably follow up with the CD at some point as I like to have physical copies of stuff I love. I'm a huge GSY!BE fan for over 20 years, so I expect it'll be a dece...

I'm in the jobby industry too (like a few others around here). They do tend to use wording that doesn't really give too much an indication of what they're really dealing with ie sludge or cake. Cake especially isn't what you think it should be.

Re: Cairngorm outer loop
Makes sense. I'd have gone for this if I'd been a bit sharper before. You can always detour to Aviemore for supplies if needed. I'd give Cobb's Cafe a miss for bacon roll though. Both that and their coffee was a poor show after my first night.

Re: Cairngorm outer loop
Yeah, the Komoot route does a short off-road after Blair Atholl where you past an old bungalow, maybe into a hiking trail but just seems to go nowhere, gives nothing apart from wet feet and then brings you back onto the road again. Another one occurs before the Loch Insch area. Takes you off-road on...

Re: Cairngorm outer loop
Maybe I should've checked on here prior to leaving. I just assumed the the Komoot version was THE version. I'd be interested in that version for next time. phil - is your loop the same as that on the Cairngorms loop.net? In the route I cycled, an off-road section from Loch Morlich to An Lochan Uaine...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
After being in Scotland, returning for only a couple of days of work, now back off for the weekend. Love short working weeks. Main reason for cheeriness was both my eldest aceing A-levels to confirm their places at Uni. They've done amazing.
