Re: Autumn HT550

Thank you, that's useful, sounds like the stalking should be ok and hopefully the rivers too. Daylight and temperature I think I've accounted for with kit and lights, and accepting I might have some longer nights. Interesting point in the bracken, which alternative would you recommend over postie's?...

Autumn HT550

Morning all, just looking for some advice if possible. I have a week off next week and was considering heading up to do the ht550. I guess my first questions were whether this is advisable given the stalking season? Or am I likely to run into trouble? And secondly am I likely to have serious issues ...

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th

Apologies, I know I briefly appeared in this thread and then disappeared again. I won’t make it to ride tomorrow I’m afraid, moving house was delayed until today, so my free weekend is a lot less free. Have fun, looks like a great route I’d like to ride in the future

I should be free that weekend (pending house move logistics), and would be keen to join please (although with a little trepidation)

Super cheap (£66.50) outdry jackets, no pit zips, but the model with the venting on the back. Not bought one myself, but maybe useful to somebody else

Edit: also, unfortunately only in white

Re: Turn any bivvy into a hooped bivvy*.

thank you for the quick reply, definitely sounds like it's back to the drawing board a bit then. My other thought was to use delrin rod, which might be a better option if I can't run a shock cord through the carbon anyway

Re: Turn any bivvy into a hooped bivvy*.

Thread resurrection, but Just wondering if anyone could shed some light for me on two questions that I have I'm trying to build a small light pole similar to this for a very similar purpose. The pole needs to be 1m long, span a gap of 45cm and form an n shape. Would it be appropriate to use 3mm carb...

WTD: 29er straight 1 1/8” suspension fork

As per the title really, just wondering if anyone has an old, straight steerer set of 29er forks gathering dust that they’d be willing to part with

Re: Quilts.... again

The Ukhammocks we've mentioned doesn't exist (run by a bloke called Mat). Towards the end of that enterprise service became slim to non-existent. If you come across some fairly negative comments from several years ago they relate to that. Well that's one less option on the table at least There is a...

Re: Quilts.... again

Certainly a possibility. On re-reading I'm not sure what the OP wants now  Sorry if i was a little unclear, looking for a quilt that can do me from spring to autumn, i'll then use my thin current quilt to boost the new quilt over winter. Alpkit have their cloudbase ones in stock at £99? https:...

Quilts.... again

I have got a few questions about quilts and was hoping that the hive mind might be able to offer me some clarity. I've been looking for a good 3 season quilt for a while, I have a lightweight down quilt which I can use on its own on a very warm evening, or can be used to supplement this new quilt to...

Re: Local recommendations and tarp questions

Hi Methers. Welcome on board. I live just outside Exeter, up the Exe valley a few miles. I have a bunch of ideas for routes and rides. Feel free to PM me. There are a fair few other Devon and SW riders here to. I would definitely steer well clear of kipping out on Woodbury Common unless you enjoy b...

Very true  in which case, what size tarp would you recommend for a first tarp for solo use?

Re: Local recommendations and tarp questions

You're right that a flat tarp is more versatile, cat' cut tends to make a taut pitch easier but it's not that hard to achieve without. I use a tarp 95% of the time and generally the same set-up. Ok, glad to know I’m not missing a really obvious point then The tarp in the link appears to be nothing ...

Very true, that does seem like a basic oversight.

Thank you, useful to know that a micro tarp can be useful

That looks like a very sheltered set up for a small tarp. What size is it?

East Devon local recommendations and tarp questions

Hello all, been lurking around here a lot, but not posting too often. My first question, I am based near Exeter in Devon and looking for some local spots to get out a bit more regularly. I've spent a few nights out on Dartmoor, but looking for some more local spots that are more in keeping with the ...
