Re: A Bike Race (around Wales)

Ah, that legislation must be why Man vs Horse vs Bike dropped the bike element in the late 80s.

Don’t know why horses are still allowed to race on bridleways though.

Re: Wanted: Sonder Frontier XL (or possibly another XL bike packing bike).

I’ve got a XL 2018 Marin Pine Mountain 2, full XT kit, spare set of 29 wheels, you can have for £1000 collected.

https://www.marinbikes.com/gb/bikes/201 ... mountain-2

It’s a great bike, but I never use it - I tend to use my gravel bike, rigid mtb or full suspension mtb.

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?

I've kind of be doing that (living a different existence) for the past 15 years since quitting 'normal' employment and scraping a living as a travel photographer ever since. Some years it's all gravy, some it does feel pretty meagre. It's not until you leave the petty constraints of everyday PAYE li...

Re: Future plans.....??

I’m hoping to do this in June: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1403437 It’s a mash up of bits of the Highland Trail 550 and An Turas Mor to make a loop so I can return to the car (or train in FW if practical). If anyone’s familiar with any part of these trails I’d be very grateful for any experien...

Re: Forestry operations on rights of way

In the FoD they just seem to smash away irrespective of whether there's a right of way there or not, often effectively removing it permanently. One has just been destroyed then deer fenced off right behind my house in the last month. Having said that, I'm alway amazed at how courteous and considerat...

Re: Favourite kit from 2020

Kona Sutra Ltd 2020.

Best bike I’ve ever bought. Always look forward to riding it and on 2.1 knobbly tyres can go anywhere I went on a 90s mtb.

It’s got to be pretty lumpy for me to break out the full suspension bike now. Hard tail has been ridden once and I only ride the Longitude out of affection.

Re: Runners input please

As others have said, shoes are personal, like saddles. However, I’ve taken in recent years to buying a size larger than for a normal shoe just so your feet can spread when they’re walloped down at running speed.

Re: Would you ride this?

I did a similar ride on a fully loaded mtb in the late 80s along the Cares Gorge in the Picos de Europa, Spain and came across the photos from that trip that made me feel sick just looking at them. Wouldn’t do that now and I expect they’ve improved the trail since then too.

Done.
Even if it’s just the travellers who are initially targeted, it’ll be everybody else soon enough once landowners get the bit between their teeth.

I’m running 3” Nobby Nics in my Longitude at the moment with room to spare.

Mine is the 2017 version so there may be some variance there.

It’s the most comfortable bike I’ve ever had!

I’m slightly obsessed with merino clothing and only wear merino t shirts every day now (I don’t have an office job!). The only brand that really strikes the balance between affordability and durability for me is: https://www.edzlayering.com/ Their t shirts are 200gsm (most other brands are thinner a...

Re: Riding with a camera

About 10 years ago I bought all the CCS kit I could find on eBay, but it was too small for the DSLRs I was using at the time, even when I cut the lining out and replaced it with thinner foam.

Ironically it’d be perfect for the mirrorless kit I’m slowly swapping over to now.
