Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

The only place it's going to go is on the rack but there don't seem to be any off-the-shelf bags out there wide enough. One possibility is the duffle-bag type of bag by the likes of TNF; they are available in waterproof material and there are a range of sizes out there and the smaller ones would pr...

Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

sorry if that disappoints you. Not at all. I was just interested. Naturally. Your requirements are a bit weird etc, but my maybe put the heavy battery thing in a frame bag and put clothes higher up and to the back? But also, if you're going to ask for advice but play secret squirrel about a weird r...

Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

OK, I'll bite  Why are you taking such a big piece of electrical (not electronic) kit with you? To run a medical device? I know we all have different needs and wants but... A quick search shows their batteries starting at 240Wh, that's 20 times more than most of us take for a couple of days - ...

Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

Have you got some pictures? No sorry but do you mean a picture of a bag strapped on top? I'm meaning a pretty simple affair using a standard dry bag of an appropriate size ad a couple of straps. I mean the saddle+rear rack set up. I think the point I was trying to make is that the Jackery is about ...

Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

[/quote] I've seen it done, although, maybe a bag strapped to the top of the rack would be better? Have you got some pictures? ]Jackery 500? That's a fair lump of weight out back and would need to be on the rack for stability I would have thought. It would also occupy the space where a (bikepacking ...

Re: Ortlieb vs Alpkit

Thanks all for the advice. I will go with custom set up from Ortlieb. About the the top tube bags mentioned: I had few of them but zips always break in few weeks. How about Ortlieb? I'm not sure if I ever found a top tube bag without zippers or any design that would prevent the damage. EDIT: oh well...

I've been checking these before I posted https://www.ortlieb.com/uk_en/back-roller-classic+F5301. What about the rest of the bags? I'm looking into touring

Re: WTB gear for Cannondale Trail 7

Thanks for that, it looks like the right thing. I tried to search for some racks but couldn't find suitable one for my bike unfortunately. This could help, I try it out.
Or maybe I could just buy more appropiate bicycle for bikepacking

Re: WTB gear for Cannondale Trail 7

Thanks for the tip. I not that keen on security anymore and the tent. Riding around a bit on this bike gave me an idea what and how to carry stuff. I will probably take that light tent recommended before Lunar Solo. Thanks for the rack tip, I forgot about that one and thinking about it I could strap...

Re: WTB gear for Cannondale Trail 7

Hey guys, I've been looking for a handlebar bag for this bike. I tried few but the issue is not enough clearing between the handlebar and tyre so I keep gringing the bags I was using. I found some good bags but they are from the US and for about 100£ so that's off limits because of taxes etc. I'm lo...

https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15895447/vango-omega-250-2-person-tent-15895447 What about this one? I can hide the bike ans stuff inside the porch or possibly have a cover for cooking. The issue here is the weight. It's 4kg 8.8 pounds I think. However everything would be covered incase rain or somethi...

Re: WTB gear for Cannondale Trail 7

I owe you a beer. Thanks for the advice. I have Abus foldable lock with alarm on it but I'm still afraid of someone nicking the bike. I will go for something that last rather than cheap low QL stuff. I used to camp for over a decade when I was younger so I'm not new to camping in general it's just b...

Re: WTB gear for Cannondale Trail 7

Thanks man. I've been looking into bikepacking for past few weeks and it's like you say. I want to start off with bike bags and a tent. Seat bag, frame bag and handle bar bag could cost me upto 200£ for some good ones which could be steep for a begginer. But the tent... I was looking for advices abo...
