Re: If you've got a phone - answer it.

Is this an age thing? If I call my kids they wait for me to ring off and then message to ask what I want! I am old enough to remember party lines an how excited people got when answer phones were invented.

Re: Looking for a headtorch

I have used an Alpkit Viper for riding and camp duties and have found it to be very good for both. I have 2 both going strong, one that is about 5 years old despite me knackering part of the battery compartment hinge and a second that is now 2 years old and is as good as new. https://alpkit.com/prod...

Not sure if this has been shared before and I realize E-Readers can be a bit Marmite! A lot of the books on here are quite old but IMO there are some real gems https://www.gutenberg.org/ https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?query=John+Muir&submit_search=Go%21 https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks...

Re: What are you reading now?

Mildly surprised nobody's read anything for 2 months  . Such is the modern world I guess. I'm a reading a few pages at a time of "The Gentle Art Of Tramping" again by Graham Stephen Graham. Very relaxing. Plenty of bon mots to idly contemplate. Let us enquire if the larks have any b...

Re: DWR coating

can't afford an outdry/ shakedry jacket before anyone mentions it. Outdry will save you a fortune in new jackets and DWR and getting wet and miserable. Save a few more pennies and look for an Outdry bargain. Mine's as good as new and was one of the first batch from many years ago. A quick google fo...

Re: Brooks saddles

Not Brooks exactly, but I've had a leather Spa Cycles saddle for a year or so now. As someone who struggles with backside comfort, I've found it a game-changer. I've waxed it once or twice, but mainly out of a sense of duty. It's not had a particularly hard life though. It lives on the gravel bike....

That is brilliant!! I have a good friend who used to be a horse nut and had been since a kid and when I suggested "horsepacking" had a zillion excuses as to why it was not possible. I often wonder how many hours of riding the average horse actually gets and given the cost to keep and feed ...

Re: July 1st - but

I find myself saying something happened last year when it actually happened in 2019 almost as though I have subconsciously written 2020 off as a non event. Apart from one or two things in 2021 like the WRT and a long weekend riding in the Brecon Beacons 2021 has also been a bit of a non event. It fe...

Re: cycle/hiking shoe suggestions

Some shoes are advertised as having a wide toe box, Merrell do some, that i found by googling 'trail shoes with a wide toe box' but i haven't cycled in any of them as i got the bearfoot ones that are thin soled. Another vote for Merrell I also use the barefoot trail gloves and their walking shoes f...

I have used a tarp only with a small ground sheet for years, hiking and bike packing and haven't died yet. Been out in all sorts of weather and temps with no real issues. I also use a synthetic sleeping bag because I'm allergic to feathers so less damp sensitive. There's nothing worse than being att...

Re: It's the 2021 "What Gravel Tyre...?" Thread

My Camino came with Resolutes on and I found them to be very puncture prone. 9 punctures in the first 2 weeks or so. Set them up tubeless which made it better but still loads of punctureswith 1 in 3 needing a plug. Swapped them out for Pananracers and so far no punctures in over 6 months, and with l...
