You have to do whatever you feel is best for you
.
But if I was in your position, I think I'd be calling a medical professional for advice as a minimum.

Bridgedale aren't cheap but do last, for me at least. Lots of options as well, length, weight etc.

Re: Routes in Nottinghamshire?

There's an old guide book which is still available, East Midlands Mountain Bike Guide. That has three routes in Nottinghamshire and many more in Leicestershire.

I've done a couple of the Northamptonshire ones and they're not bad. A mix of bridleways and byways with a few quiet lanes thrown in.

Unfortunately I'm visiting family in Cardiff that weekend. I wonder if I could get away with sneaking out for a bivi, unlikely.

Re: First GPS

Thanks for the response. I've seen and read a few reviews and it's going to be an etrex. The edge seems to be more bike specific, whereas I can use the etrex for climbing trips as well. The etrex has a geocache mode which I could see my lad having some fun with, at least it would get him off of mine...

First GPS

I've convinced myself I need one. I think. Budget would be around the £200 mark. I don't give a monkey's wotnot's about functional threshold power, but I would like to plan and follow a route easily. The Garmin edge explore sounds really good for this, but I understand from reading other threads, pe...

Re: 'Modern' long geo frames with Jones bars?

I have a newish Vitus Sentier, I've put some on-one Jones 'knock-off' bars on. They feel OK to me with a 50mm stem. I may change them back if I went to a trail centre, as they don't feel quite as precise as the originals. But for bridleways and byways they're the business.

Re: Would I be wasting my time resticking the vibram sole on my shoe

Same thing happened to me with some Scarpa approach shoes, I got some shoe adhesive off of amazon which did the job. I rubbed the surfaces with IPA (isopropanol alcohol) applied the adhesive liberally, then wrapped some insulation tape round it nice and tight. I gave it 48 hours before taking the ta...

I was going to suggest cable cleats around the bars and a home made bracket, but looking at the photo again they look like aero bars?

Re: Going tubeless...

I'm not that experienced at it, sometimes a track pump works, sometimes not. (Can't imagine I'd have a hope with a mini-pump) One thing that does work for me though, is using the 12V inflator out of the car. Cheaper than a compressor or one of those air tanks. Unless it'seems homemade of course.

Hopefully I'll meet you on a ride when all this covid b@ll@cks is done with.

This may be worth considering? Has anyone on here used one? Bit like a lunar solo, but over a hundred pounds cheaper.

Re: Bikepacking tent

The msr Elixir is a great tent, but you can't ignore the weight if you're carrying it on your bike (1800g!) I put the poles in my frame bag and strap the rest to my handlebars, but it's a bit bulky. If I start doing more trips I've promised myself a Lunar solo at some point.

Ainsley Harriot cous cous isn't bad, I usually chuck in a can of sardines in oil as well as they are low in fat.

Re: Recommend a sleeping mat

"A CCF mat will also work better if it's placed on top rather than below an uninsulated air mat." Is this the voice of experience, or based on a fact/principle? I have used it with a CCF underneath before, to boost the R value and guard against thorns etc, not that I've ever had a mat punc...

After recommendations on here, I bought an Exped Synmat HL. Only used it in anger the once so far. No regrets though, as mentioned previously, it's a good combination of insulation, comfort and weight/bulk.

Re: Anyone else only eat once a day?

I always have breakfast and then have to eat every two or three hours or weight just falls off me. If I'm cycling or climbing I graze through the day, otherwise my energy quickly plummets. I once did a weeks winter climbing in Scotland and lost a stone even though I'd been eating the whole time.

Re: Any wheel experts about?

Had a devil of a job trying to get the bead to seal, harder than when I first went tubeless. The wife suggested I use the 12v mini compressor we keep in the car, that did the job.
Might be worth contemplating if anyone else struggles, cheaper than one of the various airshot thingies.

Re: Any wheel experts about?

Sometimes you'll have more success loosening opposing spokes. Thanks, that helped a lot, less than 1mm out now. I can't honestly say all the spokes are the same tension but I think I'll make it worse if I keep playing with it. If you were going on a weeks trip, would you take spokes with you? I thi...
