Re: Helmet camera reccomendations
Thanks for the replies. I've done some YouTube reviews and have gone for the Akaso V50x - not the best internal mic, but seems to have good image stabilization and low light use compared with other Akaso models. And it doesn't break the bank. I can't see why it won't fit my needs while commuting.

Helmet camera reccomendations
After narrowly avoiding a head on with a corner cutting car yesterday while cycling the kids to school, i think it's time to get a helmet camera just in case the worst happens. I'm not looking to blow the bank on it so GoPros are probably out. Budget approx £150. I have seen the Akaso brand on Amazo...

Re: May Monkey Brain
Verena, i definitely suffer from this both in summer and winter. So many things I want to do biking, climbing, walking, martial arts, adventures. Add in spending time with my 2 young kids, badly maintaining the house and garden, working shifts and i crash and burn quite regularly. In fact i now unde...

Re: GPS Tracker Thread - Spot Content and In reach
Check Protegear for a data plan. https://www.protegear.com/ I can't understand a word of that! The data plan chart is way too complex. And it looks to be horribly expensive. I may be being dense here but it should really cater for all levels of intelligence! I'm interested in this thread as I am th...

Flooding?? Hopefully the weather won't be that bad, my 6 year old daughter might never forgive me if it's biblical rain.

Re: Where to park overnight in Aviemore?
That was quick, thanks ScotRoutes. I had vaguely thought about the Old Bridge Inn area but couldn't remember if there were any parking issues as i hadn't been past there in years.

Where to park overnight in Aviemore?
My mate and I are planning on taking the kids on an overnight from Aviemore up in to Rothiemurchus and Glenmore forest in October. Just trying to find out if there's a good place to leave the van in Aviemore for one night. Any suggestions?

Re: Tarbert/Arrochar parking
I'm loath to revive a dead thread but I have the same question and was wondering how much has changed in the past 3 years since this was posted. Was already looking at the Tarbet spot. Going for a 10 day or so trip and just looking for somewhere to leave the car where it won't be disturbing too man...

Following on from Borderer's topic on 'not the HT 550' and ScotRoutes reply re HITRANS partnership with Stagecoach/citylink. See here: https://www.hitrans.org.uk/News/Story/1260 I emailed both HITRANS and stagecoach to thank them for their partnership. i had previously had a trip rescued by an emerg...

Re: GSM trackers
I've no experience of GSM trackers but i do use the 'Buddy Beacon' feature on ViewRanger which would be similar but limited to one network. It provides me and my wife 'some' reassurance if i end up over due. Might be worth considering.

Re: Q for parents- finding time to ride
I've got a 6yo and 1yo and understand what your going through. Definitely get a regular evening ride sorted each week. In terms of trips, plan far in advance so you have something to look forward to. i give my other half a few months notice and organise the childcare arrangements for when i'm away. ...

Re: Scottish gas canister logistics
Is it not just Glasgow council area? I.e not Greater Glasgow. Glasgow airport comes under East or West Renfrewshire, could stay there or you could head to East or West Dunbartonshire both are about 30-45minutes cycle from the city centre for any onward connection the next day.

Re: Cheap dehydrated dried meals
Nido is the best milk powder. It's full fat milk, look in the Asian aisle at the supermarket Full fat milk powder, use it quick, shorter shelf life I read you can store dehydrated milk in an air tight bag/container and keep it in the freezer to make it keep longer. Then you can just take out what y...

I've used 'Tip n Zip' freezer bags from home bargains to eat from. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TIP-N-ZIP-POUCHES-STORAGE-FOR-LIQUIDS-SOUPS-SAUCES-RESEALABLE-/184750746406?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 They're self standing and you can pour hot liquids in to them for cooling or reheat food in them in...

:-bd That seat pack looks great. I looked at doing a MYOG seat pack but deemed the amount of work to go in to making a prototype and a final version from scratch and no reference as to sizing to much and ended up buying an ACEPAC holster style one from the BearBones Shop. That said if i ever need to...

Re: My handlebar harness: take1
nice and simple idea it does look as if it'll bounce a bit. Could you restrict it from bouncing by cable tying the voile straps to the top of the forks? i'm visualising a cable tie pulled tight around a voile strap, another around the top of the forks and a third connecting the two

Re: Wald 139 basket bag, frame bag and gore-tex dungarees
The clips work great for holding pieces. Other good tips i found were using double sided sticky tape and also temporarily stapling parts together to keep them well aligned for stitching.trogladytes wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 6:26 pm Wow, these are great, i like the use of clips to hold the liner in place

Wald 139 basket bag, frame bag and gore-tex dungarees
I was asked by a work colleague to make him a basket bag for his Wald 139 basket. It wasn't as difficult as first thought but its the first big project that I've had to design from scratch for someone who was paying for it. Queue a lot of research and measuring and I had the following pieces cut rea...
