December destination ideas?

Hi all. This is a classic lazy "anyone reccomend a route for" post. But after a discussion with my better half we have a month off in December to get away and get a decent tour in. Has anybody any ideas for destinations that they have visited? Dry warm weather a must and lots of off road o...

Anyway, watched this after meeting Markus at the weekend - anyone here know (of) him? https://youtu.be/WrTLvJyp92k Nice guy. We met him in Patagonia and cycled with him for a dew days. Re: I know you all love an expensive adventure

Ego polishing. Sounds awful, and I genuinely mean that. Can you imagine the testosterone fuelled twattery on display. It's so far removed from the reason I would ever want to engage in any long distance race. There is a roofer I work with occasionally, who ran the pennine way totally self supported....

Re: Bear kills cyclist in the US

When touring in the states and riding the GDMBR we were regularly reminded by people we met to hang food and be generally bear aware. Lots of horror stories about people being mauled and eaten. However, thankfully it is rare but you really need to try to stack the odds in your favour.

I'd get a Tyvek groundsheet if your not focused on weight saving. The bottom of the tent is gossamer thin and although its pretty tough, it is prone to wear.

Re: Condensation

Dew point is the name for it and you'll never avoid it. As everyone has said, site in an area away from vegetation and with a good air flow. I'm with Rich here, a wiping down with a microfiber cloth before packing helps and be prepared to stop and dry it once you get a chance.

Re: Rigs (NOT bikes) of the tour divide

If people are going to load up their front ends to such an extent as to make the bike almost unrideable, then panniers would be a better option IMHO. Also packing up everything would be a nightmare without a stand, or someone else to hold the bike for 30 minutes while it all gets strapped on, taken ...

Thanks for the info but my wife has the dynamo and I'm just on battery powered lights so I'll be using the battery pack.

Re: Extending light burn time. Is this possible?

I've set it all up and I'll probably run the main light on medium power , and then switch over to the cheapo one after an hour or so . Plug in the main light and recharge it and see how it goes.

I'd plug in the buttery pack into the light to both charge the light and use it at the same time.

Extending light burn time. Is this possible?

Myself and Mrs conners are night riding from near Buxton to Settle next Friday night (road) . She has a Son dynamo so will be fine, I only have a moon light and a shenkey thing, both are ok but have limited battery life. Can I put my battery pack in a stem bag and use it plugged in (as if I'm chargi...

Re: Undercarriage Multi-Day Hygiene

Don't use silicone/builder's wipes. Oh my God the pain, I had nothing else in the van after a very hot few days in the Lakes and can still feel the stinging now. However, I find that urine seems to be a real irritant so I ensure the onions are fully drained before everything is put away to prevent l...

Offer of free shower and brew.

I'm doing up a house in Settle and am there most weekends. It's on the Pennine Bridleway so if your passing and want a rest/brew/ shower and don't mind a building site, PM me and I'll see if I can help out.

Re: Jennride. Which tyres?

I'd go for the 2.8 width, something with a decent sidewall and capable on mixed terrain.
I rode two of the Jennrides on the XR4 2.8's and they were excellent

Re: sleeping problems and cures ?

Read for half an hour and use a white noise app really helps. No caffeine after 6pm and don’t over exercise. I’ve done hard rides on the road bike which seemed to almost switch my system on and I couldn’t sleep.
Oh, stop using your phone/device/TV for a while before bed as well.

I’ve always thought this. Myself and the boss travel with both setups and on our last jaunt I was full panniers, she had a front bar bag and fork mounted bottles and rear panniers. We got some typically sniffy remarks from our fellow “cool bikepacking” tourists about how much stuff we had. Many of w...

Re: Recommend me a diddy saddle bag please

I really like the Ortleib micro bag. No zips to break either as it’s got a bungee retaining system. Can rattle if it’s not full but this is easily remedied by packing tubed against the seat side of the bag.
Note: it wont fit Brooks saddles

I’ve put the shifter and brakes about 5mm back from the welds. I’ve got longer grips as suggested, maybe I just need to get used to it.

Jones Twitchyness!

I’ve put some Jones loops on my karate monkey (flat not the riser version) on a short cheapo riser stem from my on one inbred. This stacks the bars up level with the saddle as recommended by the literature. They ride really nicely, comfortable when upright lots of hand positions. However they’re not...

I’ve started panic buying. A pair of Maxxis chronicles 3.0, and some second hand Bonty XRs 2.8 both on eBay. Unfortunately in a lowly 27.5 diameter, however if I didn’t I’m sure I’d regret it , unless 28.4 becomes the new 26.

I’ve thought this about the plus sizes, they’re getting harder to find.
For me it’s been a revelation, fantastic for touring off road, the 2.8 size is so good for the trails I feel like I’m cheating. Why it’s not more popular is beyond me.
