Water between Haltwhistle and Edinburgh

Hi all, I'm going with a friend to cycle a section of the Great North Trail from Haltwhistle to Edinborough next weekend. We booked 4 days for it. One thing we couldn't find much information about online is water in that area, especially considering the drought. We have a filter and usually do fine ...

Sorted

Now sorted. Thanks! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Hi! A friend is looking for a bikepacking MTB. He doesn't really know much about bikes so sent me to check for him. He rode my bike before (large rigid frontier) and was quite happy about it. Does anyone sell a similar hardtail / rigid bike in XL? Budget i...

8 speed shimano altus drivetrain

8 speed Shimano Altus drivetrain: Front and rear mechs and shifters, and 11-32 cassette. Used but if I remember correctly everything work fine and there's still life in the cassette.

EDIT: £30 posted ONO

Cheers,
Tom

On my 3rd train ATM, then 40 minutes ride and I'm there

Re: Moors One Hundred DATE CHANGE ON P3

Hi all!

Is anyone coming from the south by any chance with free space in your car? Would love to have a lift with from London or some other city that is reachable by train from London on the way to the event. Will contribute for fuel and chatter :-)

Cheers,
Tom

Re: Cheap cranks died, need your help

Thanks for the help everybody! Checked again and it looks like my current cranks are actually square tapered, so replacing them is even easier than I originally thought. Just ordered the SpaCycles RD-2 double cranks and a RaceFace 40T ring. Looks like it's going to be a really nice upgrade from my w...

Re: Cheap cranks died, need your help

Hollowtech 2 will fit in the shell so that gives you plenty of options. The big problem at the moment is actually finding anything. The BB itself should be straightforward, don't bother with anything fancy an £11 Deore will be fine. Cranks might be another matter. HT2 is 24mm spindle so anything wi...

Cheap cranks died, need your help

Hi hi hi, Need your help again. Yesterday I installed new pedals on my commuter. Removing one of the old pedals showed surprising amount of resistance, but I wasn't too worried about that. The new pedals got grease on them and went on quite easily. Today, after ~10km of riding, the pedal on the prob...

SOLD Pretty worn out pair of WTB resolute 700x42

These have done probably 1500-2000 km, and quite worn out. Swapping them as this bike is going back to commute duties, so back to 35mm slicks. The rear tyre is close to the end of its life, but the front is probably only half way there. They were never set up tubeless, only tubed. Looking for £20 po...

I think that's the key thing here. I get the straps quite close to the limit as well so stuffing the bag better is the key. Also, there's a chance that your straps are just a tad too long. Shortening them is not that complicated.

Re: Better 20mm buckles for lomo seatpack

Late to the party but the 20mm ones we (Wildcat) use are YKK. https://www.ykkfastening.com/products/search/detail.html?pdid1=LB-MV Steven Good to know! Wasn't aware YKK are doing buckles. Happy with the nexus (and got spares), but since getting the wildcat harness every other buckle is compared to ...

Re: Do I want a riser bar?

Richey do a little riser stem. I've used one in the past. They're cheaper than a new bar if you shop around: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165017203669?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&toolid=10050&campid=5338358731&customid=16291124692683473680012041000008005 I th...

Re: Best 29er bikepacking tyres?

Going to hijack this thread with similar question, instead of opening a new one. Hope that's OK... I'm looking for a new rear tyre* for my sonder frontier. Had the stock WTB Rangers at 2.4, and the rear is dead after ~1000km. Just came back from the South Downs Way yesterday, and on the train home I...

Do I want a riser bar?

Hi all! Think the front of my bike is a bit too low for me. It's a sonder frontier in large, with the stock 780mm bar, and all spacers are already under the stem. I didn't check the height of the bars relative to the saddle but quite sure the saddle is higher than the bar. On long(-ish) rides I get ...

Just got back from the South Downs Way. The ITW Nexus performed flawlessly. No more sudden releases when dropping the rear wheel or while tightening the straps. Thanks for the suggestion again Shewie :-bd

Thanks for suggesting the ITW Nexus Shewie . Will have to dig in my DIY box, as I might have some of those. Fordy . Didn't think about this option. I think I would rather stay with buckles if I manage to find some that hold well enough. I like the pack but wonder if I am doing something wrong with t...

Better 20mm buckles for lomo seatpack

Hi all! I like my lomo seatpack, except for the buckles. Talking about the pair that attaches the bag to the saddle rails. They often release under pressure. This happens when I tighten the bag to the saddle rails, or when dropping the rear wheel on rough stuff. Anyway, would love to hear your recom...

Using one I've made following a tutorial on bikepacking.com . It carries my snacks / sandwiches / bananas, and sometimes a compact camera, a waterproof jacket, or a lightweight softshell. When not on rough ground it's easy to strap it on top of the handlebar harness and dry bag. The only reason for ...

I should know, that from the moment I ask a question here, until I buy something, there's usually about 24 hours or so  Just got myself a Mountain Equipment Earthrise 400 for £162. It ticks all of my requirements, cheaper, and looks like better quality than the Pipedream 400. Also the most envi...
