Dartmoor Bivvy site - updated
Today I headed out from home on a 15 mile road trip to my nearest legal wild camp spot. I’m lucky enough to live just 6 miles from Dartmoor National Park and Hound Tor near the village of Lustleigh is the nearest wild camp spot to me. It’s also conveniently on the way to work so I’m looking at facto...

Re: ESI 6.75” grips
Just poke the wd40 straw down and squirt It says not to use lubricant otherwise I would’ve done this. Wasn’t sure how I could remove the WD after to stop them Slipping once refitted. I fitted my esi grips with GT85 last time I had them off as the hand sanitiser I normally use was worth more than go...

ESI 6.75” grips
Had some issues with my hydraulic disc set up so these grips have been on and off a few times. I’ve used alcohol spray to lube them up to get them on and off which has worked great but I struggle to jam a flat blade screw driver down them without damaging them. I’ve now split one of them wide open :...

DIY wheel building
Any wheel builders on here? There’s plenty of DIY videos on YouTube that make it look pretty straight forward but wandered what the likelihood is of me turning out a strong and true wheel with no previous experience. Looking at building a front wheel on a dynamo hub and Think it could be quite rewar...

Re: My first bivvy
In relation to this, do you mean the design of the windshield itself or the fact I’d left a gaping hole in the side of it? This was only to take a photo and closed it back up after. The design really Jim. With a smaller and ideally tapered windshield, much of the heat that now escapes could be dire...

Re: My first bivvy
Thanks for all the comments and encouragement. Already planning the next one  BTW, you could improve the efficiency of the stove with a better windshield. My first bivvy
Set out on my first bivvy bikepacking adventure yesterday. Lots of lessons learnt in a very short space of time! Loaded up the Lidl specials with as much as they could take only to realise my eBay special bike only came with one bottle holder which was rendered useless by the frame bag. Queue a fran...

Exeter - Dartmoor 18/19/20 March
I’m planning an overnighter either 18th or 19th March. Ride out from my home in Exeter, 30ish miles to Bellever, bivvy overnight and ride back. It’ll be my first ever bivvy so an opportunity to test my gear although I will test in the garden before. If anyone’s keen in joining me they’re more than w...

Re: Lidl heads up
I’m afraid I did partake in the offer. These will take me on my first foray into bikepacking and whilst I appreciate the quality isn’t going to be great, if they last me one overnighter or two, and I get the bug and want to carry on, then they’ve done their job. I’ll look to upgrade. If I find it’s ...

Grand Rando - New Forest - 4/5 July
Has anyone attended this before? Run by Woods Cyclery in the new forest, appears to be a series of off road trails with camping, beer and live music.

Re: Fernworthy Forest - Dartmoor
Funnily enough was looking at Fernworthy just last night when my cycling map of,Dartmoor arrived. I saw the bridleway heading south from the woods and thought that it’d be easily rideable. Seems that isn’t the case! Has anyone bivvied just south of Bellever? I thinking about stopping there aft...

Re: Newbie - Exeter, Devon
Welcome on board Jim. I’m Exeter(ish) and there’s plenty of SW folk who are regulars on here. I wouldn’t necessarily rush into tarp camping on Dartmoor in February as your first go out. It might break you  Hope to see around some time though buddy. Maybe a bit keen  Cheers for the warm we...
