Re: Anyone riding the Italy Divide?

Flying to Rome and getting the train there and back seems a good plan so maybe a better option never thought of that cannot remember if the organisers transfer bike boxes! When I entered 2.5 years ago, there was an option to purchase a bike box transfer to the finish. I paid something like €10. I h...

Re: Anyone riding the Italy Divide?

I'm riding, having a deferred entry since 2020. Travel to Italy is looking more promising this year. Interesting that you've found a flight from Verona to Stansted, who is that with? I booked my flight a few months ago, but I'm flying back into Gatwick ... Stansted would be far better for me because...

I,m doing it anyone else fancy a cycle ride with pizza and beers along the way :-) Hi Peter I'm expecting to be enjoying a few pizzas and beers along the way. I've booked up to have a couple of nights in a place near to the start beforehand. Get acclimatised and have a look around the area before t...

Re: Italy divide

Thanks @ChrisE

For everybody's benefit, the response I have just received from the organiser to my question on the 2022 route is:
the route will be based on the 2021 route, with some changes ;)))

Re: Italy divide

I've confirmed my entry for Italy Divide 2022, having deferred for 2 years. My travel to and from the event is booked, so I just need to ride it now. Anybody else riding it next year? Also, does anybody have a view on how closely the route might follow this year's route? The distance being promoted ...

Re: Dales Divide back on 29th August... yay (but is it still accessible!)

Great to meet you on Saturday morning Robbie. How did your ride go? I misjudged the pace I was able to ride in that terrain ... in retrospect I should have aimed for 3 days +. As it was I had a great time over 3 days. First day was a hard slog, getting to Summerbridge around 10pm, with soaking feet ...

I’m staying outside of Arnside tonight. Will arrive early tomorrow to get the bike setup. Bit chilly up here!

The first day is tough as a bastard.

You'll love it. :-bd
Thank you for the route advice, and peace of mind that the GPX track works fine.

I'm looking forward to the start, and getting stuck in to that first day.

Re: Dales Divide back on 29th August... yay (but is it still accessible!)

I've been looking it detail at the route. Two questions that I have, in case anybody might have an answer here: 1. at 206km there are some gates to access the National Trust property, Beningbrough Hall. Those will be closed at night-time. In which case, I presume taking New Road just to the east wou...

Re: Italy divide

I have an Italy Divide sized hole in my calendar this year  It has recently been announced that the race has been postponed until end of July, which doesn't work for me as I'm signed up for the French Divide starting on 8th August. So I'll be opting to defer my entry until 2021. Feel sorry for ...

I've got a Crass album ... cant remember the name, but it was sold wrapped in paper rather than a conventional record sleeve. Seem to remember they keenly priced back in the day.

One of my favourite podcasts from last year was Alexandera being interviewed on the Bikes or Death podcast. Very illuminating, and I would agree that she is a superb inspirational character.

Fun year for me, with one big bikepacking adventure and a few smaller ones, plus lots of road miles.

Re: What you doing next year?

Planning to buildup to a 500km audax in 2020, then enter the bearbones 200. Why not a 600km audax, and then you should have a Super Randonneur award to your name. For me, I'm moving into bikepacking from an audax background. In 2019 I rode Bikepacking Trans Germany. My plans for 2020 include Dales ...

Re: Dales Divide 2020 .. who's going?

I'm rather new to these forums, but not to long distance rides both on and off road, and Dales Divide is one I'll be riding this coming year. As well as being a wonderful challenge in its own right, it'll also be a good test of equipment and mental fortitude before Italy Divide and other foreign exc...

Re: Tour Divide Write Up

Superb write-up. On the back of that read, I've put my order in for Cordillera.

My work plans changed for 2020 so I've pushed back my attempt at Tour Divide until 2021. Instead I'm focussing on the big European bikepacking races this year. Always good to read how others have fared.

Re: Winter boots

I've recently bought the XM9s. I concur that for cycling they are perfectly comfortable and warm. I've used them for rides up to 200km so far and temperatures down to -4, with the intention to test them out for their hike-a-bike capability soon. One or two people have commented on them, they are not...

Re: Some proper wide drops anyone?

I wonder if the prices are USD or AUD? :???: AUD. You're looking at about 130 quid shipped before customs. There are Curve dealers in the UK, thus avoiding the customs charges. Such as Giro Cycles in SW London. I run the Salsa Cowchipper, and cannot get my head around the benefits of going wider th...
