Re: Gorse proof gloves anyone?

Ha, i did consider them! Actually I reckon a leather glove would work. But I'd look a bit weird. This sort of thing: https://amzn.eu/d/6MTf7mX I used to wear something similar in the winter before I bought some actual winter cycling gloves. They were more yellow though, and I kinda liked the cowboy...

Re: Maybe a daft question about tarps/tents and quilts

I've heard of people using a short Tyvek bag (either bought or home made) over the foot end of their sleeping system to prevent it being wetted by condensation.

I've bought (but haven't tried yet) some of the Smokin Midge cones. They're much easier to carry than the repellent coils.

My girlfriend is a whisker under 5' and has Mary bars on her bike. There wasn't much space up front, but a Jack rack and Wizard Works Shazam work really well.

I bought my Ramin off someone on here and I love it. It's set up fully rigid and I've hardly touched my hardtail since I got it.

If you're looking at freestanding options, I've recently got a Kuiu Mountain Star and I'm very impressed with it so far. It's snug (but possible) for two, palatial for one and didn't move at all during a recent windy summit camp. It goes up fly first or all at once and of course they're on sale now ...

Re: Snowdonia locals - some reccs please

Successful trip. Arrived Monday mid afternoon, set up camp and climbed Milestone Direct on Tryfan. Late finish meant kebab place in Bethesda, which did the job. Tuesday was Tryfan, Bristly ridge and over the Glyders, descending via Cwm Idwal. The Stables in Betws y Coed for tasty veg curry and nice...

Two Pairs of Injinji Socks

Two pairs of Injinji Trail Mid-Weight Mini Crew Socks available for a donation to Feed the Bear and / or Cockermouth Mountain Rescue team. Both are size Large (44 - 47) and have been lightly worn. It turns out that due to my second toe being longer than my big toe and they make my toe nail fall off,...

I've walked the Primitivo, Ingles and San Salvador, and continued on to Muxia and Finisterra from Santiago de Compostela. I saw cyclists on all of them apart from the San Salvador.

That's brilliant. Tweed jackets, hike a bike and smoking tabs. I wonder how many hills they had to walk down due to inadequate brakes?

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

There are a couple of good looking retro ATBs on Facebook Marketplace in Cockermouth, Cumbria for a good price if anyone's into that sort of thing. Nothing to do with me, and I haven't got the time to ride the bikes I've already got: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136171799736852/permalink/72798053...

When it comes to VAT/duty you are dealing with a bit of the state apparatus that you really, really don't want to be messing with  My dad would say that if the Inland Revenue turned up he'd make them stand outside in the rain, if the customs/VAT man turned up he'd just say "in you come&qu...

Re: Are you analogue?

The bike that I ride the most is fully rigid with mechanical disc brakes (gotta move with the times) and 2 X 9 gears with a friction shift thumbie for the front. It's like going back to the 90s with better geometry and brakes that actually work in the wet. I've barely touched my hard tail since I go...

Re: What summer mat is flavour of the year?

I use an Uberlight for 3 seasons and rate it. As long as the ground isn't already frozen when I set up camp it's been good for me. I use a full length wide mat, I don't mind carrying a little extra weight for a good night's sleep.

I biked over quite a few of the Back o' Skiddaw tops last year, it's a fantastic and underrated area where even someone as unfit as me can actually do a fair bit of riding rather than pushing.
