Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Another happy owner there  . Obviously not heckling your choice of locs there Michael, but one of my bugbears is overengineered straps. One could probably hold up the proverbial double-decker bus with those grosgrains. Must weigh almost as much as the shelter. Rip 'em off and stick some 1.5m...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

"camo" - oops, sorry yes you said  . Their w/site shows 4 colours. Interesting to read this review: https://www.keithfoskett.com/no-solvent-required-the-zpacks-altaplex-shelter-review/ . Note the tip about converting the single front stake to three. It does seem a bit wierd there's ...

Wanted, Jones Loop Bar Bag

In the unlikely event that someone has a bag that fits in the loop of a set of Jones bars that they want to part with, give me a shout.

Cheers, Michael.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.

What started as a gap in the showers actually turned into a rather lovely evening down here in Cheshire. I was on the bike at half five and decided to have a spin around the loop that goes through Aston, Dutton Locks, Kingsley and down the back of Frodsham hill. It incorporates a fair bit of off roa...

Hydraulic v Cable Disc Brakes.

How much better are hydraulic disc brakes than cable disc brakes? I've got two bikes at the moment, a mountain bike with shimano hydraulic brakes, and an old hybrid with V brakes. The hydraulic brakes are fantastic, but the V brakes are pretty good too. When I started mountain biking in 1989 I had a...

MTB Riser Stem Wanted

MTB riser stem wanted for 31.8mm bars. Something at a 35 - 45° angle and 70-90mm long would be great. If it's in classic black that would be even better.

Cheers, Michael.

Re: Wanted; 700C x 40mm Tubeless Tyres

The Land Cruisers are the slackest tyres I've ever encountered. I can fit and remove them easily without tyre levers, and even with tubes in I have to be careful that the bead is seated correctly when inflating them. I learned this on the first puncture when I'd inflated it with my crappy mini pump ...

Re: Wanted; 700C x 40mm Tyres

Got some lightly used wtb nanos in 700x40c that I'm unlikely to use again. They're non tubeless and I've no idea whether you could set them up tubeless regardless with a bit of perseverance and know how. Any good? Thanks, but I'm trying to cover my bases as best I can by using tubeless ready tyres....

Wanted; 700C x 40mm Tubeless Tyres

Has anyone got any 700C x 40mm tubeless tyres kicking about that they aren't using? I'm looking for something gravel orientated or dual use. I'm in the process of beefing up my old hybrid, and I've put some Schwalbe Land Cruisers on, which I'm pleased with but can't run tubeless. I'm pedalling along...

Re: Before Cuben, carbon and Dyneema

I think that I still have my Phoenix Phreebooter somewhere. It seemed like an ultralight dream after the Famous Army Stores dome tent that I'd had previously, which had inexplicably survived many stormy youthful nights of bad pitches and fuckwittery.

Re: MTB the untold British story

Watching this reminded me about Geoff Apps. I can recall reading articles about his bikes in magazines in the late 80s and early 90s. With hindsight, he seems to have very similar ideas about bike geometry and use as Jeff Jones.

I've been waiting for a parcel for ages, and one arrived this morning containing some Avid disc brake calipers. Unfortunately my order was for an 8 speed shifter, and it was for a bike with V Brakes.

Impressive research, and the lady in the States must be overjoyed with the results.

Her late mother knew how to plan a route too, she certainly saw some of Scotand's finest there.

Combination Pedals

I've found that using SPD pedals for prolonged periods makes the balls of my feet go numb. I don't get this on my mountain bike that's fitted with big platform pedals, so I'm guessing that it's because of the smaller surface area of the SPD pedal interface. I'm also using very cheap Muddy Fox SPD sh...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I tried to install some Jones SG 2.5 bars on my old hybrid, and then realised that the bars are too big for the stem. Fortunately my LBS (Twelve50 Bikes in Frodsham) are open and had a suitable stem in stock. When I got home and fitted the bars I then realised that the old cables were too short, so ...

If anyone has a standalone Shimano Alivio 8 Speed Shifter and a set of Shimano Deore V Brake Levers that they want to part with, give me a shout. I'm giving my old bike a new life, but don't want to go as far as buying new components for it.
