Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Hope you're alright Bob? Maybe...? It's been a wild six weeks*, with some ramifications I'd rather not think about at the moment. Looks like I'll need to invest in some sort of pill box, as they're fair going be be rattling around for the foreseeable. 🤷 * I'm sure I'll more open about it at some un...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Went to see a psychiatrist on Wednesday, there has been a lot of staring into space since.I should be cheery as it's answered a couple of questions and explains a lot. Might go out of a cheeky bivvy tomorrow night.

Other than the fact it weights a ton (I have one, don't ask), you're essentially after a Selk’bag.

Re: WRT 24 thanks
Thanks Dee and Stu! Despite ticking off quite a few of the GRs (or passing very close by), we didn't see many riders over the weekend, which was a surprise/shame. But the weather was far better than expected and I didn't wear my waterproof at all. Plus there were more pubs on this years route which ...

Re: Recommend me a quilt
I have the Thermarest Vesper 32 UL Down Quilt and really like it. Although it can be too warm in high summer, and it's no where near warm enough for me in deep winter. It works really well when strapped to the Thermarest NeoAir UberLite , and I can just about get away with it strapped to the rectang...

Also Mike and co after that horrible wet, muddy, boggy uphill path that lead to a non existent path through the woods (at SH972098) They showed up just as I had exhausted myself and was starting to lose it. Having a bit of a scout ahead to see if we could get through, saved a lot more unnecessary e...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Walked out of the ice rink to see a fox slinking along a fence by the entrance. Then while waiting at the traffic lights to get onto the main road, a super floofy owl landed on a fence post, eye balled us for 10 seconds or so, then flow off again. Bloody love owls, so that made me right cheery!

Re: WRT GR's
Does anyone else plan their trips around likely places to sleep? I've got a rough plan for day 1 but that's where my local knowledge dries up. I have in the passed, but didn't last year, which was a mistake. Ended up riding around Hafren for ages trying to find anywhere flat, that was wasn't compac...

Re: WRT GR's
Due to the sub standard hitting the fan at home, I've not really had much of a chance to look at the grid refs and obsess over creating a route. It's not an area I've been to yet, so I'm lacking knowledge of where all the potential re-supply points and what not are. So, are there any SPAR's or other...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Thankfully I decided to head towards Wicken Wild Camping (currently shut) It's a shame that they closed this place  When I phoned them about booking it in December last year, they said they were hoping to open it again later this year. I'm assuming the composting loo needed moving or something...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Top work JudithG! Sounds like a proper adventure. With my daughter out at her girlfriends and my wife out for the evening with a couple of her friends, I was at a loose end. As I'm on-call over the end of the month and with the weather being settled, for a change, I decided to head out for my bivvy....

I think the only thing that should be pointed out, is Reg's penchant for cycling during extreme precipitation... Do we know if Karl has also angered the rain Gods in some way...?

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
Bike packing is clearly bike and camping. Removing one ( camping or bike ) means it cannot be bike packing ( how far you go is irrelevant) Not sure that argument stacks up though. If bike packing is named after back packing, then your argument would suggest that to go back packing you must also cam...

As an aside, sharing a drive could work, but what if they talk too much or really annoy me (or vice versa)? I guess I could leave them at some service station in Essex.... Buy a good pair of noise cancelling headphones. I shudder to think about spending 1,500 miles in a car with someone I barely kn...

Since my last update, I've knocked off both of these, which I thought were excellent and inspiring: Other Ways to Win by Lee Craigie Coffee First, Then the World by Jenny Graham I then started to read Disaster Capitalism by Antony Loewenstein , but have had to put it down. I'm now knee deep in: ADHD...
