Re: Bob's First Bivvy
Judging by your gear you look of that time when everyone had at least one pair of Rh. I'm not sure if I should be appalled at your insight, or offended! I did indeed have many pairs of tracksters. I have one pair left, Classic DXB 's in blue with high-viz yellow piping, that I only ever use o...

Re: What's in your hip flask?
After spending my yoof plonking a ¼ bottle of Grouse (or Bells) into a glass bottle of Irn Bru, and then necking it, I just can't drink the stuff any more. I was never a fan of the peaty stuff, always preferring a Spayside, but beer is my thing, which doesn't pack down quite so well. Might have to l...

Re: Bob's First Bivvy
Thanks for all the replies, nice to know I'm not a million miles away with my thinking. But it does look like I need to invest in a base layer, and some sort of jacket, so I'll do some research. Things I had genuinely forgotten, or not thought about: toothbrush and toothpaste torch hat (I will proba...

Bob's First Bivvy
I'm going to head out on my first bike packing bivvy on either Friday 17th, Friday 24th or Saturday 25th of the month. It all depends on the weather and family commitments as to which it'll actually be. I popped up into the loft at the weekend and got down a load of my old mountaineering gear to see...

Re: Bikepacking Food & Snacks
I've used peanut butter sarnies and a trail mix of salted peanuts, dark chocolate chips and sultanas (or raisins) on a couple of long rides recently. The sarnies were a bit dry and took up a load of space, peanut butter wraps sound a much better idea, defo going to try that.

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.
I reckon that place in you link is fine if it's actually closed and not being used. Cool. The plan was to cycle near it and scope it out. Worst comes to the worst, I continue for another few miles to the main reserve and one of the hides. Pretend you've forgotten your tarp (or better still actually...

Is kipping in hides at nature reserves allowable...? Or what about, just happening to stumble across and use, this kind of place -> https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holida ... ast-anglia ?

Re: WTD: restrap saddle harness
I asked Restrap about buying one harness and two dry bags, and was told: Each saddle bag has it's own dedicated dry bag - you wouldn't be able to use them interchangeably. If you wanted to carry less, the 14L bag can roll down more, but you can't use a different dry bag I'm afraid. This is due to th...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Fiddled with my GRX dual control lever for a bit, then took the bike to a LBS. Should find out in a few days if it's fixed or ... Can probably kiss good buy to the winter jacket I was going to buy, as I imagine this might get expensive.

Re: Shiman GRX Dual Control Issue
It's been reliable up to this point. I had a similar issue when I first built the bike, but it just started working and has worked ever since. I'm just struggling to see how removing and then fitting the rear wheel, would stop the shifter from working. I was supposed to be doing 100 miles tomorrow, ...

Shiman GRX Dual Control Issue
After completing the Festive 500 I decided to give the bike a bit of TLC. So yesterday I took the wheels off and gave everything a scrub. When I put the wheels back on, the Shimano GRX ST-RX810-R dual control lever wouldn’t shift back up the cassette to an easier gear. It was getting dark, so it wen...

Straight Cut have got back to me too:
Currently, we do not have plans in the foreseeable future to be offering the Eco range from Corudra.
Our saddlebags are currently in re-development over the festive season and should be available soon.

Re: Ethical and Environmental Options
So Restrap got back to me:
Unfortunately we have no plans at this moment in time to use Cordura Eco at the moment. We are always in the process of experimenting with and trying new materials, so keep an eye out over the year as we do experiment with new materials and processes with our products.

Nice one! It’s a special moment that first century :-bd It's been a long time coming, so I was pleased that I managed it. So pleased, that I thought I'd do another ! Re: What you done t' your bike today
Put my old Look Keo pedals onto the gravel bike, so I could use the Lake CX 237 shoes I've had sitting in a cupboard for two years. Ask me after tomorrows ride if this was a good idea or not, as I'm pretty sure the pedals are pretty much worn out.

Re: Todays ride
My ride today was a bit of a milestone, first time I've managed to nail 100 miles. 171.47km distance; 7:16:02 moving time; 1,508m elevation , the furthest and longest I have every ridden, ever. My knees are quite tired, so off for a hot soak in the bath, with a beer. Out early, 06:41, it was dark an...

Re: Big Camera And Its Future
I'm currently sorting though one of my four boxes of camera equipment; I've found black and white fibre paper so old it's discoloured in the lightproof storage box. I decided that I couldn't be arsed to lug a large 35mm film camera and all the trimmings around on a bike, so bought a compact ...

Might also be worth considering the "re-use" option more too. I still have some gear from the mid-nineties when I worked at Tiso (Rose St., Edinburgh, full time for two years, then Aberdeen part-time for three), that's still going strong. I'd much rather start buying once, like I used to,...

Re: Ethical and Environmental Options
It's a minefield full of cow pats :| [snipped...] Then you've where the materials are sourced from. For instance *all* cuben fibre (DCF) comes from one manufacturer so if you want to use that you've no options. Similarly where are silnylon, VX21, etc. made? Ultimately most of that will be manufactu...

Ethical and Environmental Options
As the New Year is nearly here, I'm looking to start collecting the gear I need to start getting out for some adventures. I made a decision early in the month, that I'd rather give my money to smaller, more ethically and environmentally focused companies, that, where possible, make their equipment i...
