Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Yay, the sun is shining again at last, and even the dogs know it's cheery Friday! Very rare (as they're both a bit old and stiff and generally can't be asked), but they had a bit of a proper play with each other this morning  - all fur and teeth and bad breath everywhere (and that's just me :l...

Re: Todays ride

That looks epic Jeff!

And yours looks great too Paul, different experience with a youngster and a picnic.

The Brecon Beacons looked busy too with walkers, even though they are shut. People just parked on the verge just outside the access road to the car park which says it's closed.

Re: Something for the Welsh Boners

Nothing about me is extreme.
I'm not Welsh, and I'm nowhere near Snowdonia. Oh and I'm camera shy. Guess that's me out then?
Sounds interesting though, but I agree with you Stu, the proper wilderness is not in the National Parks...

Re: Todays ride

Yesterday's ride was an absolute gem of a day, already a highlight of this year. Rode to Crickhowell through very wet mist, met my cycling buddy for the day there, and on we went up the back lane towards the start of Gospel Pass. As we climbed higher, the sun broke through, or we broke through the m...

To be fair, this is all well confusing  : Strangely I find life even more confusing as I get older if I think about it, so I don’t :-bd Think of it like my breakfast this morning, obviously you need your toast and proper salted butter, then you have options, you can opt for marmalade in which...

To be fair, this is all well confusing  : I had a perfectly good what I called hybrid bike. I decided I wanted to do some what I called bike touring, so I bought a pannier rack and bag for that; then I discover something called bikepacking, which seemed to be defined by having fancy seat pack...

Once at the road we acquired suitable sticks and whiled away some time scraping mud from our undercarriages.
Sounds like the bikes could have done with some of that too.

Re: Who plans their routes?

Further afield? Multi-day? Almost always. River crossings, shops, impassable obstacles etc are all issues. Frankly, I find the idea of heading off into some of our own "wilderness" with no plan pretty irresponsible, especially when conditions are sub-optimal. Like MRTs say - tell someone where you ...

Not used them but Flixbus started to put a bike rack on various services. Was thinking about them as an option in 2019 for the 2020 tour, which for one reason or another didn't go ahead. Verena, back when I was a youngster I used to go to the alps, climbing, but always with a more seasoned/e...

I don't think they go to where you want to go FLV but for general interest on this thread, don't forget the European Bike Express coach for UK to a number of great locations in France and towards Spain or Italy. Think they cover the Rhine valley area also. Best bit is no bike box/packaging stress. ...

I'll be really interested in this thread as well. Really want to stop flying. I go to Germany regularly to see my parents, but I must admit up until now this has been mostly by flying. When I did try going by train a couple of Christmasses ago, the whole thing got cancelled due to French rail strike...

Re: Future plans.....??

So without going too far into the exact intricacies and dates, or the Wales v England question, my enthusiasm has just run away with me, and I've made some plans (it just cheers me up, even if/when I have to change them later): As soon as "stay at home" is lifted, hopefully later March, a BAM "out o...
