Re: 3-4 season sleeping bag

Check out the Cumulus range of bags; I have had one for 10 years and it still keeps me warm. They offer custom bags with different lengths and zipper sides and the down is ethically sourced. They also do rectangular down-filled bags for folk who don't like the mummy shape.

Re: Similar to Exposure, but not... is there such a thing?

I have no idea if there is such a thing; There will be companies making self-contained lighting systems, but I have not found a company that makes such a good package, from the accessories such as mounts, the innovation they offer with clever tech, and then you move onto the customer care side of yo...

Re: King Alfreds Way.

I did my version of the route before lockdown in an anti-clockwise direction as I didn't fancy riding Butser at the start and some bits of the route I just guessed at so my route through Frensham was different and the line from Liss to the QECP varied for example. Having whizzed round it this week (...

Re: King Alfreds Way

Its a fun route - lots of variety of trail obviously, tarmac, deep sand, chalk, flints, ruts, hike a bike, grass and mud. I took 22h of moving time and had one crash that bent the mech hanger and sent the chain into the spokes that took a bit of sorting out. Never been on the Ridgeway apart form a s...

Re: King Alfreds Way

Going to wander around this tomorrow - the weather is too good to miss and we're allowed out to play! This should be a live tracker - aiming to get underway around 0900 and be out for 22 hours give or take. http://tinyurl.com/robdodgingbears if you feel like watching progress - there will be a stop ...

Re: King Alfreds Way

Can anybody help with public water taps on or near the new King Alfred’s Way route please in the Pewsey, Amesbury, Salisbury area? The official route is not out yet so being bored at home, I’ve plotted my own edit of it (sticking close to the info I had) and want to locate taps in this area so I can...

Re: TDR bike suitability

I did a 100 mm fork on the first run down to Mexico and a Lauf on the second - Lauf is the perfect fork for this type of race as it smooths out the washboard (imagine being on a magic carpet). I know its not pretty, but when you're on the bike you can't see it! Didn't get hand/feet issues either tim...

Re: Are Carbon bars worth the ££?

I have the ali and carbon USE Flow bars cos I like the 40mm rise on them; the ali bars go on for winter training (most lightly time for me to crash on the wet chalk) and the carbons for the rest of the year..... the carbon bars are much kinder to my wrists. Well worth the price difference for me.

Re: Salida to the Sea

S2S is deffo going to be the race to do. I think this will take over from TD. The first climb out of Salida is brilliant and it just keeps getting better as you climb to over 13,000' a couple of times. I got as far as Salida on my ATR5000 and was gutted to have to quit as the next 2000 were the reas...

Re: Lidl heads up

I got a seat bag and the handlebar bag..... the seatbag is more stable than my Planet X one and fits the bike loads better, it is slightly shorter but is still large enough for my tent. The front bag when closed up properly is not very big but would be perfect for keeping a down sleeping bag dry - b...

Re: King Alfreds Way

I do fancy this one - its too close to home to miss - I did have the O/S gpx that was posted but it now seems to have been swallowed up by the internet; will wait for the official one to come out (maybe).

Re: King Alfreds Way.

This looks great to me - I can ride from home to QECP and follow a new trail. Certainly its too slippy out on the downs for me to do much on the chalk at the moment and lapping gravel trails is getting old. Its certainly going to be fun planning where to get food and drink along the way - I do hope ...

That looks loads more fun than riding to Mexico again; will do some looking into it for sure - thanks for sharing it.
