Re: Inside car protection / bike sock

I use a king size winter quilt from Asda, £15.

Protects car and soaks up anything from the bike - must work as not a mark on the cars' interior.

Re: Cross Border drove rode advice please.

That bit north of Hawick, it's not on the Abbeys Way is it - as I don't recognise it?

Re: 29er Drop-bar Mountain Bike options

Will be used for road/light off-road riding and the odd bikepacking trip.

Not sure why you want a drop-bar MTB when a Gravel bike will suffice, or did you also want a suspension fork?

Re: Capital Trail?

It's a loop, so if you're in Inners already just ride from Inners.

Or, maybe drive over to Peebles and park by the river at Kingsmeadow and then look at getting through Edinburgh to bivvy on the Lammermuirs.

Alternatively park at Tweedbank station and then bivvy before Edinburgh.

Re: Cairngorms loop sept?

We did the outer loop at the weekend (and had a beer with ScotRoutes, cheers!) as our first bikepacking trip. Conditions were really good with the only issues: - missed the route climb out of Glen Brown and ended up going North rather than East for a mile or so, then backtracked. - Old Fire Station ...

Re: What tyre? I know... I know...

Where you ride (most) though is key. When I was Buckinghamshire-based I could run 500g (26") tyres and in summer looked at Crossmarks and the like (winter was Mud-X's), but once in the Borders the weights/strengths have increased exponentially. Now on 1kg (29") tyres and run an e13/Minion ...

Re: Todays ride

Longest on the recently purchased gravel bike.

62ml & 4300ft loop from home (Scottish Borders) - +35ml offroad and barely 1/2ml on an A road too. Love living around here.

Getting in the practice for next weekends' Outer Cairngorm Loop.

Re: Need a bike that gets the juices flowing

Don’t ignore Planet X though and while they don’t do C2W their prices and 0% means it’s as cheap as even high rate C2W savings (especially if like my employer there’s a £250 final charge).

Re: What gear options?

I recently bought a Planet X Full Monty that came with SRAM Apex 1x11 (42 and 11-42) on 700. I was a bit concerned on the gearing so bought a 38 (from Superstar, and they also do a 40 to fit the SRAM crank). So far I've found the 42-42 fine for even the steepest stuff (unloaded), but I'll find out i...

Re: What bike for the Cairngorm Loop?

Thanks. That Glenmore route looks decent, we'll do that. The Monty is surprisingly good. I've never had a drop-bar bike (at least not since I was a kid) as I've always just MTB'd. But I'd been doing more and more XCing to/from the steeper stuff that I thought it'd be worth a punt, especially with Pl...

What bike for the Cairngorm Loop?

Looking at doing the outer Cairngorm Loop in a couple of weeks with a pal, starting from Blair Atholl and just want to confirm my bike choice will be do-able. Recently I bought a Planet X Full Monty (cw 36mm tyres), and so want to use it. I've done a fair few off-piste rides (Scottish Borders based)...
