Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

Where do you start, great to meet everyone at the start and lovely ride to Feshie yo-yoing with Colin (I think he was Colin) on the ss fatty, 45 miles in ate as stomach felt funny and that didn't stay down. My plan was to ride 3 100km days as not super fit but a camp at 60miles and subsequent lack o...

I've just 2 extra jackets on the bike. And my tent... I'm not fast enough to push through in one, so may as well be warm and cosy when I do stop
I've just walked the dog this morning and I'm now changing to a thicker jacket and packing a cosy one for the stop😡

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

Beeb weather - Yellow weather warning for the heelands. The models tend not to be very good at tracking these fronts over high ground so we may get away without too much rain if it expends itself over the west highlands. Temps not too bad at lower level but high altitude bivvies not favoured.... at ...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

I'm in too. With a previous time over 50 hours I'll be happy to get in under two days though! Aiming for one sleep and enjoying the sunshine and gentle winds (must ignore the weather forecast, must ignore the weather forecast...). Stu. Unfortunately the weather forecast has been surprisingly accura...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

I've set up a tracking page on my website
https://maps.findmespot.com/Track#history/assets
Don't worry if it looks like I'm not moving, that's just me consolidating last position. The wind may become a bit of an arse but it is what it is and a midge free ride is good.

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

So the good news is I'm repairing well and had what I thought was my last physio session, told her of my plans to do this and she thought it was a good idea to have another appointment on the 17th "to see what's left" I have decided to take it easy and will be taking a tent, luxury item No...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

I fear I might be a no-show for this  The logistics are proving difficult. I need to stay somewhere the night before and probably also for the night after I get back. The Blair Castle campsite isn't taking tents this year due to C-19, all the camping pods are booked out. I should obviously hav...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

Unless you think you can finish before it gets dark does it make much difference? My current plan is to ride through but I don't think I'll be done before it gets light again so I'll have the same amount of riding in the dark either way. Edit, I should add I don't mind what time the start is, but t...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

Just been thinking about the start time in September, as the original group start was earlier a 10am start time with 15 hours of light seems reasonable but as we are later in the year and sunrise to sunset (06:41 to 19:39) with 13 hours of sunlight would it be an idea to move the start forward a lit...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

While your on, I note the route still follows the line of the old ROW past Ballintean (Inner loop, first approach to Feshie) whereas on the ground it signs you on a slight dog leg. No big deal but just to stop someone riding through a back garden! There's the bit at the Edendon too. It's not necess...

Re: This accident should not have happened

Meh. Danny would have reverse-flipped it. Really though - glad you're not totalled. Could have been really nasty. Did think afterwards how low it was and wondered if a bunny hop was the better option than slapping the brakes on, but in a blind panic decisions about reverse flipping it like Danny do...

Re: This accident should not have happened

:o Jesus! Hope you have a speedy recovery, that sounds particularly nasty. Is the track a right of way? If it is I'd speak to a solicitor as that may well be in breach of health & safety. The police have spoken with the estate and yes the solicitors are on the case, in Scotland we have right to...

This accident should not have happened

hi A little story about me over the last 2 weeks, I was on my bike going down a hill I've been down before went around the corner at the bottom and at 19mph hit a 15mm steel wire recently placed across the track. https://i.imgur.com/POLct3D.jpg I was in bright sunshine and the wire in dappled shade ...

Re: A question that might be hard to answer - Scotland

IME we get cleggs on sunny days, when the midge are in hiding. Seems to be worse in thundery weather too. Long dry spells seem to increase their numbers, exactly what the midge don't like. They also seem to have some hotspots - that bit between Dalwhinnie and Fort William seems to be the worst I've...

Scot rail and their new carriages

So Scotrail are adding an additional carriage to some of their trains with extra bike carrying capacity and before its even happened people are being negative, small steps maybe but let's be supportive of anything bike orientated πŸ€”
