Re: A question - everyone can play.

Probably. Been on some really good campsites, also been on some that we've left early because of inconsiderate folks who couldn't keep the noise down after dark.

Find one of the joys of staying 'off piste' is the peace and quiet.

Re: And from the Cumbria police we have ....

It worries me that they have chosen to focus on 'wild camping' as the problem and not the other actions. Suucinctly put. I feel a bit stupid for not being able to pinpoint why they're doing it. Someone put it into words for me please. Think their point of view is that if they clamp down on 'wild ca...

Re: GCN does bikepacking

I was just wondering, how a comment about a short YouTube Video about bike packing (watched it, didn’t find anything of particular interest), became a three page not-quite-argument about racial discrimination. :???: Scratching my head abut that too. Haven't posted for a few months and didn't expect...

Re: Is a full lock-down coming?

Would be interesting to see if anyone's published any statistics with the seasonal increase in deaths compared to a 'normal year. Suspect that some of the folks that have sadly passed away due to Covid-19 would have died from some other underlying cause anyway. Would also be interesting to see if th...

Re: Is a full lock-down coming?

More cyclists than cars out this morning on the edge of the Peak. Main road from Chesterfield (and the M1) was eerily quiet. A few cars parked up in remote woodland spots popular with dog walkers (or could it be doggers). Just seen on Twitter that Matlock Bath was deserted so maybe the message is ge...

Re: closing national parks, and imposing fines?

Had this conversation with a work colleague of mine who used to work for the Peak. He was saying logistically a nightmare to do in the UK due to the number of roads into them and the relative easy of access. Also it would involve shutting some fairly major trunk roads across the pennines. Problem is...

Re: Cooking a balanced diet with what you can scavenge from the shop

Had pasta and prawns in curry sauce in a very posh restaurant in Zermatt 30 years ago. Totally random combo, but the type of stuff that you'd find left in the supermarkets especially if you go for fresh pasta which is of no interest to preppers.

Re: If we close up for a bit...

Talking to one of the staff in our local Co-op this morning, there's a shortage of drivers due to either non-covid-19 related illness or self-isolating so although there's stock in the warehouse it's struggling to get through to the stores. She also said people were queueing at 6am to get into the ...

Bought an Oukitel WP5 for £110 SIM free off Amazon a few weeks ago because mine gave up the ghost. Android 9, 8000 mAh battery which lasts ages and can be used as a powerbank if needs must. Water and drop proof - there's a video on YouTube of someone chipping it out of a block of ice and running ove...

I did point out to the guy behind the idea when he put it on Facebook that you can rent various bits of bikepacking kit from Pannier,cc, but he didn't reply to that.

Also a Primus screw on stove from when I was into doing mountain marathons in the late nineties that is my main stove. Sure some of my thermal tops are of a similar vint...

Got a few that might be unsuitable - track bike, Tern folder and a Hercules Commuter that I've converted to SS. I reckon owt from Raleigh's 'British Leyland' period in the '70s and early eighties when they were knocking out 3 speed commuters and folding bikes in the Raleigh / Hercules / Triumph / Ph...

Velotastic 300

Been busy working on a route over the past few months in the Peak. Gravel bike friendly if you fancy having a mega day out, couple of long days for an epic bikepacking weekend or three days if you like your pub cafe stops. It's on the upper end of type 2 gravel fun so be prepared to push and swear. ...

Was planning to do a two day epic in the Peak District this weekend. Unfortunately Storm Dennis the Menace put a kibosh on that. Decided to keep it local and go down some of my fave trails on the edge of Chesterfield. On one of them the bridleway heads down next to a stream for about 10 meters. Fine...

What's the axle on the front wheel, and how nicely does it play with the through axle dropouts? It's the allen key axle that came with the SON 28 hub I used to have. Seems to work fine. Those drop outs are just standard dropouts that are closed at the bottom though as far as I can tell so any axle ...
