Stopped at one of the technical sections up a gully/ stream near Corrour . Going along the dirt roads must have been boring for most of them.

Scottish 6 Days Trials

Rannoch to Corrour was busy, at least we were going with the flow.
One bike packer heading south was not amused as the trials bikes route was to Laggan . Going to check the website for 26 routes when up.

Re: Best bikepacking bike?

The new Trek Checkpoint is ideal for Scottish tracks as it can take 29 by 50 mm tyres and possibly bigger. A friend had a warranty replacement for the v3 model and decided to upgrade as one of his mates bought the Checkmate. I bought the warranty frame and built it up.

Re: Best bikepacking bike?

Trek made an aluminum touring bike, but it never really sold well .The 920 had drop bars , 37 mm tyres and front and rear racks. Seen some YouTube posts about using the frame for bikepacking as it could take 29 by2.35 tyres . Bought the frame as it was still available and i like it. Flat bars, some ...

Re: Lochan na h-Earba pump storage hydro scheme

 Years ago, I was at some conference or other where someone stated that renewable energy schemes would only work if we reduced power consumption significantly. This was well before someone had the bright idea of running cars off electricity. The mitigating factor there is that the 5kwh you used...

Re: Advice on early retirement planning

One option for the rest of the world is cancel arms contracts . And for us insignificant people don't buy American products. America will feel it because cash is king . Cancelled Strava premium etc. Governments should fight fire with fire none of the appeasement like reducing US tech tax ,put it up ...

Re: Trump and Tour Divide

The rest of the world has lots of empty lands, no need to fly to the big city airports. You can still cycle out of many small European airports, and the drivers still believe cyclists are allowed on the roads. Every time I return its a shock to the system having to cycle in the UK again. I made my m...

Re: Komoot is dead, long live Komoot

I alway try the garmin custom route builder with the gravel setting first. Another way is looking at veloviewer heat map and if a light blue track shows up I will try it if it's close to a direction I am heading. My other half usually uses Komoot to check for routes, then looks at a map. Have this i...

Strava and AI policing

On veloviewer, load up rides when I have a bunch of rides where I have not been on Strava.to increase my tile count. Have rides flagged, can't AI tell the difference between a n electric bike, car or freewheeling down a mountain road. . Bet a lot of Kom' s might be at risk if you do a segment with a h...

Re: Komoot is dead, long live Komoot

wouldnt it be good, if we all went back to paper maps...like we managed pre mid 2000's. forcing all the tech people to shut. it didnt seem any harder to plot a route IIRC. And not being lazy ,downloading someones gpx file. Takes all the freedom of choice away when on the bike if the gps is you guid...

Re: Seatpack for tall people

If Oldmanmountain had done it's homework the bosses would positioned not to foul other manufacturers gear. Two rack heights and both are a pain. Why call it a rack , a lot of us are into multi day/week /month trips not just an overnight jaunt. All the micro panniers, bags etc are fine when you know w...

Re: Seatpack for tall people

Have the Elkhorn racks , the aluminum is soft . Unless you tape up the contact points and adjust the pannier hooks ( Ortlieb gravel ) they will rub thro after a while . And one of the bosses on the leg makes clipping in the pannier a pain. Only plus is that they are flat packable good for flying . T...

Bike fixed in Agadir, 300 kms of squealing Hope pro 4 bearings. Everywhere east of Agadir has next to zero modern bike spares.Even Ouarzazate was hopeless, bus to Agadir . Plan 1 find a good bike shop and see if a fix is possible.. Plan 2 Decathlon and a new back wheel. Good bike shop saved the day,...

Anyone used this company, ordered bolt thro axles for racks tapped M5 threads . Refunded money, wonder if they just do small production runs and with any luck they might email when more are made. Much cheaper than the Roberts project stuff.

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Yes the App crashes but it's just a glitch and works next attempt. I go into the web version first to load up tiles then try loading the App. In Scotland max square is limited unless you are a good swimmer or mountaineer 🤭. It's number of tiles for me now.
