Re: Rotor recommendations

Adding to the above, I think shimano Rt76 or the slightly fancier RT86 are my favourite fit and forget. They last ages, and the carrier helps with weight and hopefully warping...

Re: Rotor recommendations

Worth checking what rotor thickness your trp's need, as they vary between some models. Some TRP's are the more common 1.8mm so can use shimano and many others. Some TRP's use 2.3mm. You might not notice, but there might be differences in feel and what happens when pads/rotor wears...TRP rotors thems...

Morgan cargo cages

Very tangential, as I was just looking at pictures of Morgan 3 wheelers (and want one more than ever now). Their Malle Rallye edition basically uses bikepacking cargo cages to mount luggage in a more modern style than the traditional tubular racks: https://www.carscoops.com/wp-content/uploads/webp/2...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide

Just adding to what Sean said on tankers etc....They are available, and I know some companies have ones available with taps for no water situations. But there's a few problems: - Carrying the water back home - has to be in manageable sizes. - filling up containers from tankers and bowsers would take...

Very loudly (but only in earphones, sadly) Mogwai's 'Christmas Steps' from the Come on Die Young album. An immense song from an immense album.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Can of worms Friday there Reg! I'd echo what Sean says about water supply, it's incredibly high quality nearly all of the time. Crypto outbreaks do happen, this one seems to have been worse than others, but amplified by the media due to the focus on the industry as a whole. On sewage: the condition ...

Re: Trangia kit - too bulky for bikepacking?

I've yet to try meths burner since I was a scout, but can see the appeal. As my bike trips are usually fairly short, I prefer the small gas stove setup for ease of use, weight and size. This thread made me dig it out to weigh the lot, and was pleasantly surprised that ti pot, kraku stove, gas and li...

Re: Missing the point?

An interesting thread this, though really an appendage of the adventure thread. Slightly tangential/meta, but this put me in mind of a Raymond William's quote form The Country and the City : "Nostalgia, it can be said, is universal and persistent; only other men’s nostalgias offend." Stick...

Re: Missing the point?

https://www.beicsbrenin.co.uk/news/launch/ I heard about this too, and aside from the 'adventure' debate and marketing terminology, I see it as a positive to have more waymarked off road trails. It gives more types of cyclist on different types of bike, more options for riding off road. It could al...

A brave and hard thing to do, but sounds like you you did it in the right way, good luck! At the complete other end of the spectrum, my youngest boy - born in the middle of the first lockdown - is 4 today! Lots of excitement and parental pride, reminding me of my own excited birthday's as a young bo...

Re: If you could recommend 1 gravel route - what would it be?

You could get a big loop in the New Forest, taking in the sea to make it longer. Only a day ride really, but can be extended outside the national park. There are tonnes of gravel tracks open to bikes, which though non-technical, are a nice way to get around a beautiful place by bike. Some bits are h...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

I loved the original, mainly for its sense of landscape and amatuer adventure. Mike Dion was cringeworthy, but that aside it was good. If nothing else it'll probably show what has changed on the racing side of things, and how very much different a beast it now is..

Re: Sub 1k hardtail

Calibre Line hardtails (from Go Outdoors) in 27.5 or 29 are highly regarded value bike, though the 29er is £1100 with members card currently. Also, nothing wrong with a voodoo Bizango or Boardman 29er from Halfords - they tend to have pretty good specs for the price.

Re: Bike packing full suspension frame/ bike recommendations

I've never owned a FS but the one I always like the idea of is the Cotic Flaremax. It's probably too heavy and expensive, being steel frame/alloy rear, but it looks to be adaptable, and would certainly be durable and capable. I'm sure it could be built fairly lightly, and made to work well as a bike...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

We have a winner for fugliest bike 2024, in April. It firmly pinballed on every branch on the way down :???: It also seems to be very expensive, even in a lower spec ($3799). It may well function very well, and is a bit of a fargo with less tyre clearance...but still... https://media.therada...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Finally finished off the 'new' town bike build. All built with bits swapped from the old Inbred 69er town bike, and spares from the shed. Some are a bit too nice, like the V12 mag pedals and SLX chainset, but otherwise it rides well enough. Had to do some jerry-rigging of the mudguard, but it turned...

Though recent flooding has quite a lot of drying to do here, I'd rate the trail conditions as roughly 'november'.

I've also recently turned to fleece a bit more for everyday, including a nice and cosy Fohn hoody/fleece from the sales, plus a couple of fleece based shirts. I've also got an Alpkit griffon as a mid-layer and it's really good. It's a gridded one that sheds heat and moisture well but is still quite ...
