Fear not, Wiggle and CRC are alive again, albeit just a re-tread of all the other myriad Mike Ashley websites. You can probably find what you need on the House of Fraser site just as easily!

Re: Monks trod - wtf

What a strange decision, and I would expect this added media attention might help to focus thinking around it. As a historical route it deserves preservation, but it's usage by motorised vehicles doesn't match the environmental conditions and the sensitive habitat it crosses. That should really be t...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

A whim purchase 2nd hand frame arrived. Cheap, and really bloody nice Gen 5 Cotic Soul in mercury silver. Going to run it 120mm mullet, hence the need for a 27.5 wheel. Going to be a pure fun/trail machine, and the Titus will be the XC/all rounder machine. Just want to get it built up and enjoy it, ...

Re: WTD: 27.5 boost rear wheel

Thanks Lazarus, i'm still holding out for just the rear currently, and i've my eye on the Ribble wheelset currently on offer for £99 if I need to get a pair - thanks though. Shaf - if you can confirm the hub and rim/rim internal diameter this does sound interesting so i'd be grateful for pictures. L...

Thanks, not sure if they can be converted? I have to say i'm not really after a carbon rim but a kinlin rim might be good depending on internal width..?

WTD: 27.5 boost rear wheel SORTED

Looking for a decent-ish 27.5 rear wheel, needs to be:

Boost 148x12
Shimano HG freehub (or swappable)
Not too garish colour!
Decent width, preferably over 25mm, ideally 30mm. 40mm+ wide for plus tyres won't fit intended frame or tyre choice.

Thanks

The Wolf Way

Seems to be a 'new' route launching from Cycling UK in Suffolk. Don't know much beyond what is on the webpages of Cycling UK and promotional article in the guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2024/mar/19/wolf-way-suffolks-new-medieval-cycle-trail https://www.cyclinguk.org/route/wolf-way Goo...

Re: WTD: On One rigid forks, circa 2011 vintage

There's a complete inbred 29er being sold on STW and it comes with the carbon fork as a spare pparently, so maybe they could be persuaded to part with the fork?

Re: Similar but cheaper (rear rack content)

Think the only other option with three pack mounts is a similar price, the Tumbleweed T-rack or mini pannier rack [just seen they're out of stock anyway]...otherwise you're looking at a tailfin alloy rack with those mounts, at an extra £100+. https://www.wizard.works/product-category/accessories/bas...

What a strange video (the instagram one). Drag a load of expensive gear to a nice location, make a ridiculous fire, burn your socks, get cold, don't sleep, trudge back to the car vowing to buy some more stuff. Inspirational.

Was going to suggest something from spa cycles...not sure how many of their frames are qr though. This is cheap and might fit the bill https://www.customriders.com/bike-parts/frames/fairdale-weekender-frame-and-fork-kit-2023-black__23337?currency=GBP&chosenAttribute=FDFR-987-MBK&gad_source=1...

Some hilarious wisdom from Alexandera Houchin. She's so damn cool. I'd not heard the phrase 'constipation cookie' before  There's lots of honest thoughts on how to deal with pee stops and periods; an extra layer of difficulty that men don't have to think about, but should remember is a thing fo...

Also delivered the bargain Ragley fork - which seems pretty good for the money. Not used a fork with an integrated crown race before, let alone a carbon one, but will see how it goes. Also arriving are some cable guides to use on the fork mounts, as I refuse to use internal hose routing on forks. Ba...

I couldn't agree with you more Reg. I'll also take the easy pun you are dangling, by declaring, as far as cars go - i love knobs! I only have a basic screen in our car, but on the occasions I use it I get really annoyed by how distracting it is. On top of things being impenetrably hidden behin...

Re: Recommend me a decent stills camera

Good further points on image processing, thank you. Shooting Raw+JPEG is a good point, as the RAW file is there if needed. To be honest i've only really stuck with JPEGs in any case, mainly as i've never had a decent enough PC/Laptop to do processing or use as a photo software platform. I've also no...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

I think what this whole discussion brings up is the wider issue that for many decades, UK energy policy/strategy has been lacking on many fronts. Politics clearly comes into it on many occasions, but the upshot is where we find ourselves; which is not enough headroom in supply, older sites being kep...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

The other issue with nuclear being the cost and time to build, putting it out of near-term strategy. This comes alongside old plants going offline/being decommissioned. Just look at Hinckley Point C, started 2017, commission date 2029-31 at best. The cost overrun means an increased cost per MWh, not...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

Yeah carbon payback is a good point, and with solar too. I think with old solar panels they struggled to pay themselves back, but modern more efficient ones are 1 to 4 years apparently. And obviously with fossil fuels there is no payback, just net increase in Co2. The biomass/wood power stations are...

Oooh, some interesting Salsa stuff, i'm hovering over the cutthroat fork - very tempting indeed. Can even overcome the flat mount on it quite easily...Though have just seen there is a recall issue with them, so that might need checking first! On the Sonder PSA - very surprised to see them on Sports ...
