Re: Bivvy a Month 2025
May as well chuck my Kask into the ring... January 2025 The wintery weather has made commuting this week much less enjoyable than usual due to been forced onto the main roads with the other traffic. It was nice to get out somewhere quieter and enjoy it. I left home after dark last night and (mostly)...

Re: 2025 - A year to look forward to? What are your plans?
Bike plans: -The Bright Midnight race in Norway, and getting fit enough to enjoy it. -Audaxing - probably another RRtY and SR. It's a fun and effective way to get fit on a bike that I can do with a couple of mates. -Usual MTB stuff - jenride(s), BB200/300 etc. Non-bike plans (with Kirsty) - Download...

[*]The Cumbrian Traverse - this is walking/running(?) across the Lakes from Broughton in the south up to Keswick. A sort of counter route to the Joss Naylor Challenge which goes E-W. No time limit so it'll be a bit more chilled. I ran this a few years ago with a group of mates. Lovely day out and a...

Re: Anyone signed up to R*pha500 this year?
Any ideas of completing this ended yesterday for me. I woke at 4am and set off shortly after with the intention of riding a hilly 300km loop around the dales. Basically Halifax, Keighley, Settle, K-Lonsdale, K-Stephen, Tan Hill, Leyburn, Burnsall, Keighley, Halifax. Fairly mild start in the Calder V...

Re: Saddle recommendations
I've wouldn't like to think exactly how many saddles I've tried over the years. I thought the c17 was great for a while, so fitted them to 3* bikes, then started finding them too hard, leaving me bruised after long rides. I'm now riding Fabric/Charge/Cannondale Scoops on road, gravel and hardtail, a...

Re: Anyone signed up to R*pha500 this year?
Nothing sinister John. Just not something that's of interest to me. Did it sound offensive or would the Audax lot mind other people using their routes without actually doing an audax :o Not offensive at all and I'd imagine most organisers would be flattered that people want to ride the routes they ...

Genuinely curious why you wouldn't want to ride an Audax event, but would want to ride the route?redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 6:49 pm I don't plan to ever enter an audax - in fact if I can die without entering one, I'll have classed it a successful cycling career.

Re: Anyone signed up to R*pha500 this year?
Tempted, but I'd need at least one opportunity for a 'big' ride to make it happen. I've no intention of riding every day but if the stars align and I can get out for a 300 or 400km ride, the rest should just fall into place

Actually yesterday's. 'Solstice Century' around Huddersfield with a couple of mates. 5:30am start from home, 20 miles to 'Mate A's' house in Kirkburton, 15 miles to meet 'Mate B' in Marsden, 30 mile loop together including a mid-ride cafe with Christmas themed baked goods, then another cafe stop at ...

1- Ace trip to Lithuania to meet a mate, then cycled from the Latvia/Lithuania/Belarus border, across Lithuania to the Baltic sea. Great mix of gravel roads, weather, accommodation, traditional food, beer and good company. 2- Most used kit will be my Audax bike, a Planet X. Several years old now and...

This sounds like an excellent result! My personal experience after being recommended shorter cranks by a bike fitter was a bit different. I just simply didn't like them and found them awkward, despite only changing from 172.5mm to 165mm. I'm more of a 'masher' though and like the bigger range of mot...

If someone wants to buy me a gift, I'd rather they chose it based on what they think I might like. I’m sure you have the right meaning but I hate seeing people waste money on gifts I won’t use. They obviously have to get it right which means they have to be paying attention. Beer has a 100% success...

Actually Fridays/yesterday's The Moonrakers and Sunseekers Audax. 300km from Bristol to Bournemouth, then back again. Fitted up some cheap Sonder Camino forks (from the Alpkit eBay store) to my Pickenflick. 5mm shorter with 5mm more offset. They feel fine and although the handling feels different, I couldn't say if it's better or worse. They have some benefits over the old ones though which is why I swapped - more ...
