Re: SOTO Windmaster

Ordered from Ama zon. £50. Thanks for the replies. Sorry, I meant the stability of the pot, old style Mighty Mug 900, on the 3 small prongs of the BRS. I've started using a bigger canister 230g with a stand, but the baggage is now getting bigger - may have to dig the panniers out  Which is al...

SOTO Windmaster

I have been up in Scotland for a while and the weather (wind) this year has been a bit #£%^& That means I have had to cook indoors. The tent. Dodgy and dangerous. My BRS 3000 is the best gas stove ever. If MSR made it, it would be +£100. But it lacks stability with a pot. Fair enough, it is smal...

Re: Midge eviction protocol

Just done a 4 night trip (kayak - but pack rafting is tolerated on here  ). Sourlies Bothy, which I have bikepacked to before. Got to get this issue sorted. Ruins a good night in the tent. And why do 5 bites on 1 arm itch, then clears after half an hour, when 1 bight on the other comes up like...

Re: Osmand v maps . Me

Thanks for the replies.
I don't like to use Goog maps as I like to save big areas/whole countries in one go.

Is there a way to turn it off if it runs in the background? I hate being tracked.

Re: Flipfuel or similar

Mine was from Amazon. Campingmoon. It is very well made. The finish is excellent. The only things I can't comment on are the internal o-rings, which I can't see. I also bought the adapter for the long cannisters / 227g Butane. Mixed gas for winter. Butane for summer as it is £1.25 / 227g Can't remem...

Osmand v maps . Me

In the past I used Maps .me but it kept playing up and used a lot of data. Constant pestering to update. Bloated.

Anyone tried Osmand?

Or similar?

Android. Offline maps. Gps. Don't need routing or anything fancy. Free. Private, no email or logging in.

Thanks.

Re: Midge eviction protocol

had several drown in the liquid wax after being attracted by the flame  This is tempting. Smidging-up is not really an option, as I like to wash/clean myself before bed. And repelling midges is too late once they are inside. If anyone finds a mini 'atomizer of death' ie. Raid spray, please le...

Midge eviction protocol

After tips on how to remove unwanted midges from inside a tent. 1. Usually I just try to whip or squash them with my grundies or g-string. But last trip (Loch Etive, kayak), far too many. Opened the tent just enough to pour out my Mighty Mug 900 of pee. 8 seconds. 1 foot opening. Got about 10...

If you want a bag, not a quilt -

RAB Alpine 200 or Neutrino 200, size long.

Trekkit usually have good deals.

I have both.

Re: Tour de France 2023: Injuries, disaster bivies, failure to complete the ride - a great time all round

:-bd Just finished today. Stunning area. Even got some swims/dips in. Some mild roadworks with excessive warning signs (French style), meant I had the Gorge des Gats to myself and it is all down hill. It kept the Dutch Clogs away with their caravans. Did a few days/nights but had to cut short as a f...

Re: Tour de France 2023: Injuries, disaster bivies, failure to complete the ride - a great time all round

So you love the Vercors! I've just spent the last couple of weeks bikepacking up some very big climbs. Multiple trips. But getting a bit burnt out riding up little hills like Mont Ventoux with a tent and 3 days of food. Daft me. It is also getting hot down there. So typing in Vercors, your na...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/156471120@N04/ There are some pictures of some insects I have eaten. Scorpions, crickets. Also a roadkill snake. Magots and woodlice in rotting wood are easy to find. Wood ants and larvae are easy. Just make sure there are no restrictions in the area. Although poaching ...

Re: Foraging

I've done a fair bit of bushcraft. Most foraging is nonsense. Hippies talking about nutrients (Y tube), but it is calories you are after. Ray Mears won't stop talking about mushroom collecting. But they have close to zero calories. Worthless. Nettles are the easiest to learn to forage. But pick the ...

Evernew titanium. With cross stand. A copy of the Trangia.
Or with a titanium firebox (Lixada? from Amazon).
I do 2 or 3, month long trips each year, so gas is not a good/cheap option for me.

Thanks Ben. I'm sure the sand and all the thorns have played a part in the floor being porous, but it is also the areas of the floor 50% that have never been used. Thanks for the link. I've done a few long trips in Spain. I gave up looking for gas canisters as I wasn't riding near any big towns. And when I did, most shops had 10 hour siestas  and were closed 4 days a week. I used my alcohol stove. Fuel was available from small local supermarkets. But it was hit and miss with...
