Re: Vittoria tyre choice
The Planet x prices are a bit daft so I went with the Gomas. At that price I can always try the Gators later.
Cheers for the replies.

Vittoria tyre choice
I am looking at getting two tyres from Planet x. I have never used Vittoria before but the choice is between the Goma and Gato. I have UST rims and tubeless. 29er hardtail. Is TNT compatable with UST. (Tubes no tubes). As a heavy weight I assume the Goma would be a better choice. Gato better for wet...

Re: Mont Blanc tour
It's a long and unpleasant one. BUT there is a funny side to covering the name. In Italy and some parts of France, the road riders can be very 'snobby' and refuse to say hello or even look at you. But the crosshatch reflective tape over the name makes it look like a brand they don't know, so I often...

I really need the wide mouth because on my longer trips I use an ultraviolet sterilizer.
Glad to know I am not the only one with dribbling issues.

1 litre bottle. SIS v Zefal
I have always used the SIS bottles, Science in Sport, but find the wide mouth, 1 litre bottles, always leak. Had 3.
Research has suggested that the Zefal 1 litre is a better bottle.
Anyone got any experience with them or others? Am I chasing the leak free impossible?

Mont Blanc tour
A few years ago I did the Tour du Mont Blanc in a day, by road bike. While I was riding it, I didn't really have time to stop and enjoy it. So last week I decided to do it slowly and at least get some capuchinos down me (I had 6 in 3 hours). https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1762/42596306375_c68f4362cc...

Are you talking about the rubber tread touching the top of the pedal?

Re: Squeaky shoes Giro Privateer
Starting a short tour tomorrow in the Alps, so will do some experimenting. Going to take a Chapstick and knife. The Privateer shoes have a big tread, so most of the pedal is in contact. A big job if it is the sole on the pedal. A lot of cutting. Also noticed that the uppers, tongue, squeak a lot. Hm...

Squeaky shoes Giro Privateer
I have some Giro Privateer shoes which I bought especially for big distance rides. Road and Mountain bike. These are my 5th pair of clipless shoes, so I have experience with clipless shoes, but I can't stop these from squeaking. And they are really bad. Both sides, every turn. The problem I now have...

Doesn't answer your question but -
In Spain, if you are on a fancy race bike or touring set up, you can bring your bike inside most large supermarkets. I always ask and always get a yes - with a smile.
In France they say no.
I have used a movement alarm in the past, which is a great deterrent.

Re: Vid recommendations
Thanks for the links.
The Kyle D vid has one of the best starts.
I can't watch the vimeo vids, as I never seem to have a fast enough connection. Also I can't change the vid quality to a lower setting, so it will load faster. Do I have to open an account to be able to do that?

Any recommendations for on-line videos? Bike related not porn, sewing, cooking etc... I don't often have a good enough connection to watch them but when I do it would be good to have some ideas rather than waste hours and Gigs searching. I have just watched and recommend ForestyForest's (you tube) v...

Re: whats the lightest way to make fresh coffee
Cowboy, as above.
Lots of nonsense on the web on how to make it.
The grind size is important. Too fine, and it is like drinking mud. Too course, and it takes longer to get the flavour out and the grinds will float.

Scaremongering part 1. There are a few posts on here about discreet biving. This year I have spent a week (combined) in the Tende & Roya Valley. Mostly road riding and hill running. For the last couple of years there has been a very big army presence who patrol the entry points and surounding hi...
