Where in December?

I can't ride a bike because I (still) have a bust finger which means my hand can't hold the handlebars. But, as I am tough as nails....... I spent nearly two weeks studying Argentina/Patagonia as a destination. I still don't see the attraction other than a lot of amazing meat eating. Fly fishing is ...

Re: Tents pots frames odds n ends FOR SALE

I am back at the palace where these are stored, so they are back up for sale. I'll be here for a couple of weeks.
Will probably keep the West Wind tent and may put my Akto up for sale. Will update when I have checked it out.

Re: Broken finger - rehab

I broke a finger 6 weeks ago. (Partly ScotRoutes' fault). C'mon man. I'm on tenterhooks here! So I was just about to head off to Laggan for a ride when ScotRoutes sent a message recommending a route in Cairngorm. As I had been pestering him for some ideas, I felt obliged to do it. And it was ...

Re: Broken finger - rehab

Very surprised by the replies. I thougt I would be told to stop - whining like a front racked hipster bikepacker. (I am none of those  ) My break is the same as Wotsits. Maybe the NHS use the same stock x-ray to save money. I have broken fingers before, but in the hand, 'boxer's break' 5th me...

Broken finger - rehab

I broke a finger 6 weeks ago. (Partly ScotRoutes' fault). Absolutely no chance of any bike riding. I removed the splint a week ago and started rehab as I need to go on a month's bike trip. A week later and I still can't close my hand into a fist. I can get my bad finger and its neighbour (they...

money belt

I am planning my next big 1 month adventure. Over the last couple of years I decided to stop using cards and just take cash. Normally Euros. I usually have a secret money belt but they are uncomfortable and a pain. I also have a real buckle belt that holds money, but this is only good for a few €100...

Re: Cooking stove recommendations

If you are thinking about Europe then forget the type of stove until you know what fuel is available. Alcohol is everywhere. Meths at hardware stores. Msr pocket rocket - forget it. Screw type canisters are difficult to get in a lot of areas. Msr Superfly is better as it also fits the French Camping...

Re: Morocco (again)

I think the definition of bikepacking has gone out of the window. So don't worry about that. Half the stories on bikepacking.com have racks and panniers. Or worse, a saddlebag resting on an unused rack. And don't get me started on a saddlebag on the front, resting on an unused front rack  As fo...

Mavic Instant Drive 360

A couple of years ago I bought a Mavic wheel set. The rear freehub disintegrated. See link. The hub and spokes were replaced (not a new wheel - a bit tight) but I didn't use it for a year as I had bought a replacement. I started using it this year and my chain was jumping under load. I ended up chan...

Re: Waterproofs, de-lamination and repairs

I am on my 4th Patagonia jacket (warranty). The first 3 were H2no membrane. After a lot of fighting, I managed to find out why they kept failing. There was a factory that got something wrong in the process. I heard that it took a couple of years for this to be noticed. But that is kept secret. Not s...

Re: Saudi Arabia?

Oman would be the easier option and there are already some good routes. Riding in the Empty Quarter would be something new. But I would assume that they would be after 'resort' $$. Not much money to be made from a guy on a bike who likes wild camping. Also the issues with roaming about without the p...

Re: Saudi Arabia?

If the roads are dangerous, then more incentive to find trails.

Desert riding can be very rewarding with some amazing views, sunsets and stars. I've done a lot of desert riding, so I'm interested.

If you are looking at the bad/political side of a country then that's the Tour Divide out.

Penny Farthing Torridon

Some tough hills up from Applecross to Loch Torridon. And today a bloke rode past on a penny farthing with a pith helmet.

Joff I presume?
