Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

It isn’t a new day until you’ve gone to sleep regardless what the clock says* I feel that I could be responsible for some confusion (blatantly wrong now I think about it properly) here having set off my 2020 saga on New Year’s Eve. It was a right story that I wanted to share with you lot and I’ve be...

Re: How much of a ballache is ...

I am for it in principle. Different starts and ends would be on the positive side of neutral. There are other more important factors in attracting me to an event. I do back this movement against cars. We cannot control everything, but if everyone who cares enough takes positive action then the comme...

Re: OT audax touring: Riding the limits rollercoaster

The connection with the environment that I notice the most is the sound. Agreed it is the most noticeable. I am trying to be very conscious about improving my writing so appreciate any constructive criticism, thank you for picking up on this. I am aware of the line between describing everything I w...

Re: Straight Outta Door - Ride from home Trips.

Last night I had nothing on, a bit of an itch to scratch as my weekend plans had been thwarted by two accounts of daftness on my part, so just like that I decided to have a night out. This is the beauty of riding from the front door. Everything it to my schedule. I took this opportunity to practice ...

Re: OT audax touring: Riding the limits rollercoaster

Also, enjoyed the lack of numbers. I don't know how far your rode, for how long other than a rough guess, how many feet you climbed, or what the temperature was, and I feel the story was all the richer for it. Thank you for noticing this. I am a mathematician and spend my life searching for pattern...

Re: OT audax touring: Riding the limits rollercoaster

Glad it has been so well received. I’ve set the goal this year to write up every trip within two days, after that it just doesn’t happen.

It was indeed.

Re: Exped Mat Repair Advice Please.

I’ve had two proper holes, one 5cm 3cm L shaped over a baffle. Sewed it up with a my shorts label as a patch then the exped glue is what makes it airtight. The patches are just to stop the glue sticking to itself I believe. Think three layers each dried until tacky (10-15). Holds air like new

OT audax touring: Riding the limits rollercoaster

Our modern lives are often dictated by convenience and instant gratification, I am rebelling against that. I do not want an easy life. I want a good life. I had entered an event with a hard time limit and made it harder for myself by taking sleeping gear around with me. I wanted to find my breaking ...

Re: North by North West Parts 1 and 2, Audax meets bikepacking.

Recently completed my first audax tour this Saturday and just writing it up. That was only me biviing because it was a three hour ride from my flat and I didn't fancy waking up at 3:30. I live in Stroud so would be a double bivi holiday for me and need to get round for the last train at 8pm Sunday. ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

This sleep was on 1st January so by rule 2 it just about squeaks in. I have always been dissatisfied with NYE parties, the build up, the pressure to have the best time, getting utterly rat arsed due to the previous points. This year I decided I would spend it in a bivi bag, on a hillside. Folded out...

Re: Grwyne Fawr Bothy

I stayed there a couple of weeks ago. It was snowy on the top so was mainly pushing from the road. Stunning landscape for a walk and the reservoir looked so special for the dusting round the edges. I arrived about 2pm as I had covered ground much faster than expected. About an hour later I hear a kn...

Re: Extreme road rage

I like to think it comes from a lack of understanding. The impatient drivers have probably never ridden a bike on the roads. They do not understand why cyclists don’t all ride in the gutter. They feel entitled to the road at or beyond the speed limit. They do not realise that the slight short hit to...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

My understated grey Orange Clockwork ‘92. Original and best bike. Had it 3x8 with thumb shifters for taking me anywhere and everywhere while at uni, including many trips over the Pennines and Ikley Moore on the slicks it came to me with. This was a simpler time before upgrading for upgrades sake. Re...

Impressed that a story of this angle is given a platform on Bikepacking.com that I have often been frustrated by stealth ads for their sponsors in their stories. I started bikepacking a seriously poor gap year kiddo budgeting £20/week disposable income which had to cover anything above food and livi...

My cosy duvet at home is down and that gets used nearly every day of my life, far more than any sleeping bag, and is not showing any signs of degrading.

Off road ITT purely by written directions?

So I am currently going through a phase in cycling of exploring my limits while exploring the U.K. and would like to try my hand at one of these itts. Goretex like the army ones, but more muted navy so can commute without people expecting you to do a commando dive into the nearest ditch. Measured waist to be 36”
