Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

I'm a size 9.5 or 10 (depending on brand of shoe) and the Large fits me perfectly. Hope that helps.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

As ever, it’s taken me a few days to write this up but I ticked off February’s BAM at the beginning of last week. The weather forecast was predicting rain in the forthcoming few days so, despite having a dental appointment on Tuesday morning, I decided to head out late on Monday afternoon while cond...

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

Another penny's worth from me and it's pull up a sandbag and swing the lamp time I'm afraid. In my 23-year military career, with the exception of the Arctic, I never once used a tent in the field. With good tarp (aka basha) site selection and configuration, they were more than adequate for al...

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

I may be wrong but I can't help thinking that generally (elsewhere perhaps rather than here), I see less and less reference to the use of tarps and generally more focus on tents - albeit often lightweight models. At one point, tarps were almost universal issue but are they disappearing and becoming...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

I kicked off this year’s Bivvy A Month series last Thursday. Up here we'd all been enduring a cold spell last week but the weather folk were predicting the arrival of milder, damp conditions… with Storm Isha coming soon after that! I decided therefore to head out on Thursday while the going was good...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I rode in from Hawick, a distance of 24 miles. I delayed my departure somewhat in the hope the forecast would prove accurate and the heavy rain would ease off, which it did. The early miles were on roads until I entered Craik Forest after which the route was exclusively fire track, much of it...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 9th/10th December

A lengthy To Do list and a fair bit of lethargy have prevented me contributing any post-trip words before now. Anyway, I’d just like to echo the sentiments of the three other SWB attendees above. It was nice to catch up with Dave and Phil again and to meet Justin for the first time. Always a pleasur...

Certainly looks pretty grim weather down there Phil. It’s becoming a bit of a tradition for the SWB weekend! Anyway, whilst I haven’t yet decided on my route/distance in, my intention is to go for it. I’ll PM you my mobile number and am happy for you to share it with Dave Northwind and Gecko...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 9th/10th December

I've contacted Bridget and unfortunately she's unable to attend. Health issues have kept her off the bike since the summer but there's an outside chance she might manage a short walk in to the bothy. I've advised her it'll be a lot easier if she doesn't lug in a big bag of coal!

Re: Winter Bivvy?

Assuming we're talking about the 9th/10th December, I'm up for it. Like Gecko, I'm probably more inclined towards the bothy option and from what I've read online, the Greensykes one looks bigger, with three rooms.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I got November’s bivvy ticked off at the end of last week (24th-25th), the second month in succession where I decided to revisit a site I’d used three years ago. On this occasion the spot in question was on an estate in East Lothian. Among the organised activities on offer there is clay pigeon shoot...

I'm all ears here folks and will be up for wherever the consensus takes us. I must say Phil, that open-sided 'shed' in Falkland Estate did look good.
