Re: Bivvy a month 2022

I’m sure Storm Arwen back in late November is still fresh in everyone’s memories. As elsewhere, it caused a great deal of destruction among most of the wooded areas along the East Lothian coast. One such place was John Muir Country Park not far from Dunbar. A pal and I have enjoyed numerous fat bike...

I'm in again this year. Big thanks to you Phil for taking the trouble to sift through and tally up last year's reports.

Seriously impressive stuff. All the more so for having the drive and determination to complete the route twice in one year. 👏

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy

Thanks Phil for your summary of what was a memorable winter bivvy. Definitely a great choice of venue and it was well worth the slog up there through the remnants of the snow, the numerous boggy sections and last but definitely not least, the treacherous ice patches. Sounds like you guys had an inte...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy

Yep, the forecast seems to be looking that way right now Dave. Sounds like you're planning a longer ride in so no need to go mad on the fuel side of things. A fire log (as I recall you brought last time) would be more than adequate. I'll bring another one.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy

I rode up there yesterday to do a bit of route proving, mindful of the fact that I might possibly end up riding it in the dark this weekend. Incidentally, I used Robbie’s route. I’ve ridden quite a bit in this neck of the woods over the years, have bivvied at Loch Ordie and ventured as far north as ...

Plus one for the Nukeproofs (the Neutron EVOs, to be specific). Cheap too.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

Right, that’s November’s BAM ticked off early. On Wednesday afternoon I started off in the village of Dirleton in East Lothian and followed the John Muir Way to North Berwick. From there a mixture of tarmac and dirt trails took me to my destination of Tyninghame Woods where I arrived about 40 minute...

 Definitely a good location for a bivvy Phil and I’m sure they’ll enjoy it. As long as the weather behaves itself, of course...unlike their recent Tentsmuir experience!

Aye Colin. Gradually getting that way here in some places, too. Incidentally, I'll need to get back up your way before too long. Probably for one of the Highland fat bike crew meets - it's been far too long since I've been on one!

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

A couple of months ago I explored Devilla Forest in West Fife on my bike and thought at the time it would make a good venue for a BAM. On that occasion I’d driven over there but, after a bit of GE and Komoot study, I worked out a route from my home in Edinburgh to the forest using a mixture of off-r...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

A late September entry. I’ve had a fair of domestic and personal admin stuff going on this week so I’ve struggled to put finger to keyboard. Better late than never, though, here goes… On the morning of Friday 24th September, a couple of long-time cycling buddies and I departed Inverness with no real...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

Jimmy, would that be a potential Scottish section Winter / Spring bivvy location? Nice idea Phil but sorry... I assured my mate beforehand that I'd be discreet re the location so as not to attract any undue attention to this quiet spot. In any case, he spends every weekend down there (lots of work ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

On Tuesday afternoon I headed into East Lothian, along one of my regular routes - the Pentland Railway Trail, which gives easy access to many other excellent off-road trails and potential bivvy spots. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51403630591_19bb504131_c.jpg Untitled by Jimmy G , on Flickr ht...
