Re: Deeside Way?
As Phil said, mostly flat with the exception of the bits where it doesn't follow the original railway route, notably the section through Scolty Forest and the evil bit round the back of Kincardine O'Neil that lobs in a big hill to avoid the road. Overall though, it's a very pleasant ride with lovely...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Well guessed Phil! Yep, I'm off the mark for the year too. I headed out late on Monday as I was headed to Glasgow for work the following day, so it was my last chance to squeeze in my January BAM. As usual, I wasn't free to leave till after 11pm so just aimed to hit a small patch of forest out past ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Sorry folks, I'm very late to the game but thought I'd add myself to the list! :grin: It was a mad year, with very little free time to even browse the forums but I did manage some big rides and a whole set of BAMs at least. I only managed to get up to March posted initially so here's my catch up: Ap...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
For March I was determined to reach my intended bivy spot regardless of what the weather thought. Luckily, the weather was kind enough not to rain as I made my way out to Echt and up the track to the Barmekin Hill Fort to set up in the trees below the summit. Obviously, the minute I sat down in the ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
I apologise profusely for the time warp that I seem to live in where I can never manage to post my bivy rides up in any kind of good time. Some beautiful pictures turning up here as usual, so I'll have to settle in for a good proper read through. Anyway..... February (Yes, I'm that far behind) was a...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
I second that recommendation - have worn these through some seriously bad weather and come out the other side with miraculously dry hands. Don't own any other gloves that come close to that performance. Even the XL size are not really that big however, if you want to wear a glove underneath them.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Hello again all, I've enjoyed catching up with everyone's exploits after a year out of the BAM business. After a badly timed COVID infection killed off my fifth consecutive year of BAMing before it had even began, I took the rest of the year off in a huff :lol: I've not missed stressing about trying...

Re: Road Touring - (relatively fast and light)
How about just getting a really light wheelset with 28m slicks on the Pipedream - should make it feel a lot more nippy? 28mm set up tubeless should give plenty of comfort on the road too.

Re: Bivvy a month 2022
Looks like my habit of leaving things till the end of the month has finally caught up with me. Positive COVID test yesterday means I'm trapped at home for the next few days. Looks like my run is stopping at 48 months - pretty gutted

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
It's too easy to do this with Strava!
2020 = 2467m
2019 = 3571m
2018 = 3695m
Could have done the actual climbing figures too, but decided to stop whilst it was on the verge of healthy obsession

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
:lol: To be clear, the total elevation of all the locations that you chose to bivy at, rather than that gained during the ride. So if you slept on a beach every month, you would be barely scraping double figures. My results, thanks to living near the coast during garden bivy times: Dec 165m Nov 71m ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
Thanks Cheeky! Yeah. Neither Braeriach nor Nevis seem like a pleasant prospect with a bike. Yeah, Macdui's definitely the pick of the top 3 for a bike! Now here's a thought - who had the highest and lowest cumulative elevation for the year if they add up the elevation of their bivy spots for each mo...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
Need to do some serious catching up with everyone's posts, but work, kids and sleep seem to get in the way of any extraneous internet activity over the past year! The few spare bits of time have been taken up with BAMs wherever I can fit them, so I have managed to complete a full year again. Haven't...

Loved all of that - cargo bike definitely makes sense for these adventures if you have one, especially when you have gear to carry for two kids!

Re: Guisachan House and Glen Affric
Thanks Bob, I enjoyed the history and pictures of an area I've always meant to spend more time just hanging around in. That path from Cougie gave me some flashbacks to the first time we did a coast to coast ride. We did it the opposite way, pushing up the faint path towards Cougie, all the while bei...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
It's obviously outrageously expensive at the moment, but if this turns up in a few years as a kit you can add to any pair of wheels without much weight penalty for 50 quid or so, I'd snap it up and thank those affluent halfwits that funded its development!

Re: The Hebridean Way
Loved that whole thing and have made lots of metal notes of places we didn't get to on our trip back in 2010. Have always had it in mind to go as the whole family and they're just about old enough to manage some of it at least

That looks like a grand weekend and I love the swim spot! Meanwhile, I'm still playing catchup with my posts for previous months. May was one of my favourites, as I had Jose Jr with me, who loves any kind of sleeping and living outdoors. We had to go to our usual spot in Glen Quoich as he loves it t...

I really enjoyed that video, thanks. The best bit about it was your appreciation of the surroundings - it reminded me to never take it for granted, even in places I'm very familiar with, such as the Cairngorms.
