Re: This year's set-up
Yeah same philosophy, without judgement I find it interesting how others do it. Ticking over another 365 days on this sphere at midnight and as standard bought myself a gift to celebrate, which is a new frame. Needing to get back more into outdoors life including getting some experiences on the bike...

What makes frames unsuitable for a front mech? Chainline? Bought a new frame and bit miffed that manufacturer specifies unsuitable for a front mech, might try it non the less and see.

Re: Bikepacking mistakes you’ve made
On my last one night trip things taught me a few lessons. Left the house mid afternoon, in an area I know quite well so no need to have a route marked on the GPS. Weather was great, if warm and still is your thing. Had a bivi location in mind, and got there about 90 mins before dark, perfect. As the...

Re: Is a Fargo unique?
As a (steel) Fargo rider i’d like to say that it’s not a gravel bike. It’s a mountain bike that happens to have geo for drop bars. It’s got far more in common with the XC/adventure MTB’s of the late 90’s than a modern gravel bike. I’ve used mine for all the stuff I used to use my Marzocchi Bomber e...

GT85 spray (with PTFE). Petroleum based lubricants then to attract dirt/dust and retain it, the silicon doesn't which I'm sure helps the life of the zip. As a bonus the silicon/teflon spray I have is also good for curtain tracks, thus making the curtains slide as if they are new and earning extra p...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
A mate dragged me into the local go outdoors and grabbed a much needed new pair of shoes for everyday wear, but would be alright for a bit of biking with flats. Remind me a bit of the older version guide tennies, £40 a pair Link: https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15908972/north-ridge-men-s-quarry-approac...

New gear cable on the road bike. Took it out of the car, put wheels back on and change gear then ping, cable snapped. Luckily local halfords was open and managed to get out for a spin. Note to self carry spare cable on big trips.

I did the jenn last year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, so be joining in this year if tickets are available. Thinking I might do a longer route avoiding anything steep and technical, although hard in the lakes!

Re: The post man's been ...
That looks great with the cx lever! Any ideas what the post weighs? About 630g with the cable and lever (mtb) for mine. My scales aren't terribly accurate though. I've done about 90km on it so far. It works. Push the lever and sit on, down it goes. Stand up and push the lever, up it pops. Nice litt...

Another vote for WTB speed's, think I have the older versions but same shape etc. When I first started road cycling I tried a much flatter shaped saddle but got agonisingly painful sitbones, and found the wtb one I had much much more comfortable. Done 200k road rides on the WTB's with no more proble...

*Reminder to self. Must get ticktool
[/quote]
I had 3 on me after the jennride, 2 nymphs and one slightly bigger. I find the ticktool's don't go small enough to remove nymphs and carefully use a pair of tweezers out of my mini swiss knife.

Air mattress inflator
The alpkit numo mat takes some blowing up, so inspired by this video I made the job a bit easier with a rubble sack, rubber washer and old pop bottle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGW_b-sdGRc
Don't have a drill to hand so just used the small blade on my SAK to cut out the required diameter hole.
