Re: E-Bikepacking
Saw a couple of groups ebike MTB touring in the Alps. Recharged batteries at lunch stops and overnight in refuges. I was a little envious.
Can see myself doing similar in my dotage.

Re: Troubleshooting (Rohloff) help needed
Plenty of life in that sprocket lifio. I once heard a pinging sound on the trail. Third time I heard it I thought it was worth investigating. Turns out that it was the toothpick thin sprocket teeth snapping off. By the time I got to a bike shop there were only nine left and most of them didn't survi...

Re: hike-a-(loaded)bike
Similar to that straight arm technique, but with two modifications. Firstly use a bumbag/hip pack as a sling over shoulder and top tube. A quick release buckle helps with this. Secondly face the bike backwards. Makes everything balance better, the front wheel will hang straight as you are climbing u...

Hi Mike
I am quite flexible on both time and duration, a week would probably be right.
Trans Verdon is good for me.

Seeking a Summer adventure
Last year I took a solo trip along the southern part of the GR5. It was a fantastic experience, but would have been better with some company. Some of the descents (and even the traverses) were a little too techy to commit to without someone to call for rescue if things went wrong. I have also promis...

Re: Guardian article re bikes on trains
Europe can be problematical too. A very unhelpful guard tried to refuse me taking my bike on a TGV. It was packed down to below the required dimensions, but he maintained it could not come aboard as it was in a box rather than a bag. After a few minutes pleading and cajoling he advised me that if I ...

21kg for my Alps trip
That doesn't include water, but 1.5 kg of food.
Not bad for a full suss

Put some lighter tyres on the Capra. It is now just over a pound heavier than the Anthem. I can't decide which one to take on the Alps adventure.

Re: Peaks200 (23/24 July) groupstart: Who else is in??
I finished! That was the hardest bike ride I have ever done. The heat was brutal. Started with Steve, but on the second climb (jaggers clough) it was obvious that I could not keep to his pace. My heart rate has close to max and took 45 minutes to drop to a sensible level. I plodded on at a slower pa...
