Re: Qu. for eTrex users

I also use Basecamp and find it dated, but very useful. I believe you can set the etrex to follow a track, which in turn allows you to set an ‘off course’ alarm - I’ve never bothered though. One ‘gotcha’ with routes is that the maps in use on Basecamp and the etrex must be identical (not a problem i...

Re: Van recommendations

The chances of getting it re-classified seem to be slim to none at the moment, everything comes back as "van with windows". The only affect this will have is van speed limits, motor caravan limits are the same as a car. I've looked into this quite a bit. The statement above is 100% correc...

Re: Squealing brake diagnosis

Check your pads haven’t worn out! When they wear right down, the little forked spring between them rubs on the disc and makes it squeal.

Re: Tell me bout NC500

I've just returned from that neck of the woods - We took the train to Thurso and rode out to Cape Wrath and down to Achnasheen over the course of a week. Much of the route shared roads with the NC500. While the NC500 was (very) noticeably busier, the riding was always excellent, and didn't feel like...

Re: Way OT question about 240V transformer.

Could only using 1 secondary output have burnt the secondary windings out? Yes - 50VA is the total rating for the transformer. it's almost certain that each of your secondaries is (was) only rated for half that (~1 amp @24V). Resistance is 3 ohms which at 24v should give a draw of 8 amps Your calcu...

Re: Welsh C2C in a Day

Enjoyed the video. Route ;) https://www.strava.com/activities/1070415628 So £44 pounds a year instead.... paying for the route is cheaper. Edit: Constructive statement - looks like a nice variation on the Sarn Helen, which is also, a nice route. Mostly. a) You can see where they went for free :smil...

Re: Sort of a photo thread - the basics and getting better t

Great thread - thanks for starting it. Any Sony owners know where to find this light meter tool on the RX100? There is a scale in the viewfinder, lower edge, +3 to -3, but no setting changes seem to affect it / not sure exactly what that scale is. I can't add much: I've got the MkI, which is slightl...

Re: Pot noodle alternatives :)

At last, something I have some knowledge of ;) : Maggi Fusion noodles (Sainsbury's & elsewhere) - delicious. Also Tiger noodles if you can find them. Nearly as good as Japanese street ramen. Mama noodles - not bad. The chilli ones are quite potent. "Super" noodles, Pot snot^H^H^H^H noo...

Re: Creating a GPX track with markers

Does the Oregon have an 'Automotive' display mode for the map (the Etrex does)? This gives a sat-nav style display that might be easier to follow. Otherwise, setting the map to 'track up' makes it much easier to follow a GPX track line. (I'm a bit confused as to why you had to keep zooming and panni...
